Like a list of LA, Dallas, Vegas, Tampa, Florida and whoever else. They'll pay him a fair 8x8 or whatever guranteed right now. What's the advantage of holding out? If he has a bad year he's going to cost himself ALOT of money and potentionally end up in a worse location
Hes never going to have more leverage then he does now.
|
How long until the teams you mentioned realize every FA wants to come to their team. Once they realize this then the $8M offers turn into $6M offers, and if players continue wanting to go then it will be $5M offers.
The owners of those teams aren't morons, yes some are overpaying (Vegas right now) but both Florida and Tampa have started lowering the amounts they will pay. Andersson may get a surprise next summer when Vegas offers 6 yrs x $6M no matter how good he plays this year.

Conroy debunked the rumour that Andersson had even spoken to any teams nor that he had only one team in mind. I think Johnson is trying to piggyback off LeBrun. My intel is also that Rasmus has not even considered anything yet, he is vacationing

I don’t think any Gm would confirm that type of stuff lol.
The fact Friedman kept name dropping Hague and saying if he signed here this thing would be done seems interesting along with this report.

No GM is going to put himself in a position to be proven as being distrustful about something like that with the media. There's is no reason for Conroy to lie about the situation.

There is a lot of reasons for him to lie. He would basically be telling the league this guy is a rental and is gone to Vegas in a year.

Not a lot

I wonder if someone from the Knights camp is leaking that to try and dissuade other teams from trying to acquire him. We all know how they do business.

Probably the original article says Vegas is his top choice.
Likely why the poor reported return.
I could see him forcing a deal to Vegas or get dumped as a rental and sign with them in free agency.
Interesting comment from the Vegas GM. They wanted the trade for Marner to lower the AAV so they can keep the roster intact and add. Sounded like Marner was getting 96M offer from Vegas regardless.

Yeah, and some of the destinations aren’t realistic trade opportunities potentially. He mentioned Florida as an example.
Still think rental is the best course for this thing to get done.

From the rental perspective, if Vegas really wants him signed they’d be dumb to gamble that he doesn’t end up liking his rental team and signing there for an extra year…

Shop him as a rental take the best offer tell Vegas to beat the offer if they can’t trade him.
It’s benefit for both Vegas and him for a trade.
Hopefully Conroy stops trying to get throw ins like 3rd pairing defenceman.
At this point I’d be happy with a 1st.

I think a bunch of teams are a good fit for Andersson but do they have anything of value for us.
Tampa and Vegas don’t have much value for me personally.
La does but I can see why on a hockey level he wouldn’t want to extend. When you have a geriatric like Holland running things.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, least of all Conroy and the Flames.
Of course the few teams Andersson is willing to sign with are at the top of the food chain (Florida, Vegas, Dallas maybe?). And of course these are the teams with few, if any, assets that would truly excite the Flames. It’s a tough spot.
I agree, at this point it’s best to trade him as a rental. Maybe some team loses a key D-man in/around Christmas and the flames don’t have to wait until the deadline to get a package that they like.
In defense of the Flames, though, I don’t think they’re alone in having to deal with these constraints and I think it likely will become more common over the coming years. Marner certainly did it to the Leafs.
It’s also worth mentioning that preemptively trading a player also isn’t clearly the better path in all instances. Rantinen being the most obvious example.

One would think Andersson would take the extension a bit more seriously, considering if he becomes a UFA and does not extend to the team he is dealt to, he potentially loses 2 years of top dollar.
