The Flames feel the need to artificially push youth down their line-up and refuse to allow young players to make mistakes. Years and years of spending 3rd and 4th round picks on depth defencemen instead of using the young ones we already have. Years and years of propping up veterans and overpaying depth in free agency at the expense of internal development. We get what we deserve.

You realize that Kotkaniemi has been up and down between the AHL and NHL and the pressbox for the past two season right? Kotkaniemi was trade bait for much of the past two years.
Suzuki was highly touted and still spent two full seasons in junior after his draft year. Monahan, Tkachuk and Bennett stepped right in after getting drafted (Bennett in the playoffs right after his draft year).
The Caufield situation is no different from when Gaudreau joined the Flames. Small super skilled College player who got put right into the line up and never left.
If this is about Phillips and Ruzicka, then I have to tell you, they aren't at the same level as the guys mentioned above. Not even Mangiapane and Dube are at that same level, which is why both these guys have had to work their way up.
The Habs are filled with veterans. They spent a ton of assets and cap space on veterans over the past few years.
I don't know how you can even use them as an example of a team that gives young players a chance. They are fluking out right now but they aren't the team you want to use to push your "play the young players narrative". They are not much different from how the Flames have done things.
Honestly, thinking about it more, the problem with the Flames core is because they gave them TOO MUCH TOO SOON. Hartley was too tough, so they got their wish and he was canned and replaced by the soft players coach who ended up throwing his stick in frustration. The lack of maturity, lack of ability to deal with adversity, and lack of will of this "young core" tells me that they were given too much responsibility and power as opposed to not enough.

Stanley Cup Semifinal: Canadiens vs. Golden Knights---the Habs lead the series 3-2.
I know both series still have to be decided but it would be just another example of how everything has gone right for Montreal this post-season if they had to face the lightning with an injured Kucherov. The list of crazy luck/fate that has gone Montreal’s way this playoffs is incredible.
Obviously, it could still be the islanders and/or the knights in the final. It just seems like another one of those things coming together for Montreal at just the right time.

When Kucherov went out I thought exactly the same thing. Leafs without Tavares, Jets without Scheifele and Stastny, Knights without Stephenson (which turned out to be a bigger deal than I would have guessed).

Fleury gifting them game 3 vs Vegas with less than a minute left after being thoroughly outplayed by the Golden Knights for the first 3 games of the series.
Going on an eight game winning streak right when they are down 3-1 in a playoff series… after not having a single 5 game winning streak in four years.

He was also a healthy scratch first game of the playoffs.

I don't understand the "Vegas doesn't deserve to win so soon" mentality. Why? Because the expansion teams of the 90s and early 2000s were treated like dirt coming into the league? How fair is it to expect the owner to spend hundreds of millions to have a product that will suck and not have a fair shake at building a solid fan base for it's first half dozen years? How can you grow a game in a city when you give them a team full of rejects and scraps and expect them to be proud of the garbage you gave them?
Life long residents of Vegas have gone a long time without having the pride of their own professional sports team at the top league in their sport. They paid their dues by not even having a team in the top league of any sport.
Can't be the players who need to suffer. They've dedicated their careers to becoming a part of a successful team. If Vegas were to win the Cup you can't tell me a single player on that team was undeserving. They have all put in their time.
The notion that expansion teams don't deserve a chance is a bad take.

I'm fine with a team having early success. This is the big league, if your team can't compete with a new team then they need to make changes. Being jealous that our team isn't as good as an expansion team isn't going to get us anywhere. Being selfish and trying to keep the players on our roster hasn't lead to any amount of success. Good for Vegas for figuring it out. They didn't exactly build a team of superstars. They signed those players once they realized that this nice destination location knew what it was doing.

I have hated the Habs since first arriving on Canada's shores in 1980 and will always continue to do so. The politics of Canada just adds a little extra chocolate sauce on that cone...

I wonder if those who called Bergevin stupid for trading Subban for Weber feel dumb and apologetic themselves now. Including most of the commentators and columnists. What Bergevin has done to improve Montreal roster with what he had to work with, is nothing short of amazing.

Vegas has really stepped it up to become a legit sport town. Knights are a huge success and the Raiders are on the way which will be massive. Vegas keeps getting better, I am a fan.

Ooof Martinez. 1-0 Habs. Not a good goal and a horrid turnover.
