The team might save some money by signing now if he performs this year like he has in the past. I'd think that the Flames committing to keeping Elliott as the clear-cut starter over term would be appealing to him given his previous experience.

I have to admit that this surprises me a little. Treliving seems to be the type to slow play things a little bit. They must really like what they've seen and heard from Elliott right away.

AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

I don't like it, if true. Goalies are strange beasts, and we have to know whether this environment is right for him, and what cost-controlled options (Gillies, really) look like in a year.

In another sense, though, Treliving seems to exhaust every option and work tirelessly at all things to do with the team. I wouldn't be surprised if he's had at least preliminary discussions with every pending UFA on the team about an extension.

No surprise Elliott reportedly in extension talks already. Body of work is there, .925 SV% since 2011-12 is second to Cory Schneider (.926).
Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Top 5 in SV% since start of 2011-12 season (min 50 gm):
1. Schneider, .926
2. Elliott, .925
3. Talbot, .924
4. Rask, .924
5. Lundqvist, .923
This stat always comforts me. I think we have a beauty in Elliott.

Give me a 3 year deal for Elliott and I'll be happy. Gives Gillies the appropriate climb up the ladder in those 3 years. Back up for 2 years, split duties for the last of Elliotts extension.

Yep, I agree. 2-4 years would all be fine to me.

I think so too. When a guy puts up those numbers it usually means that he makes almost all of the stops that he's supposed to make and most of the one's he not supposed to make.
What killed the Flames last year in my opinion was the bad goals - the one's that had to be stopped but they weren't. Those were the one's that took an emotional and mental toll on the entire team.

This is the first time in a long time that I actually feel comfortable going into the season with our goaltending. What an odd feeling.

They played the whole last season without goaltending.

Hmm, makes me think. I wonder if you could make your pads fluorescent green/yellow, or some other blindingly annoying colours.

I'd like to see him play at least 20 games before we give him an extension. In such a good spot right now, rather not rush it.

Interesting how Price is not even in the top 5 for save percentage since 2011.
Props to Schneider for maintaining such a great save percentage, even with a heavy workload and a weak team.
If the Flames do extent Elliott, I hope it's a fairly short contract.

I was surprised the Flames were not talking extension as soon as they traded for him. The Flames finally have another good goalie since Kiprusoff, they can't go into next season with all the question marks again. I would like to see 3 year deal at $4.5-$5.5 a season.

I like it. Sign him to a 3 year extension. Give the team a shot at becoming contenders while giving Gillies and Parsons room to breathe and develop properly.

If I'm Elliott, I'm not signing anything for less than five years at this point. Considering his age, he's probably going to want security if he's giving up a shot at UFA before the season even starts.
5 x 5m seems like a reasonable deal for both sides.

If he wants 5 years without proving he can handle 50-60 games I wouldn't want to pay more than 4.5M.
Maybe less even, he'd be 37 at the end of that contract

Fair enough, I just don't see the incentive for Elliott to give Calgary a sweetheart deal at this point. If he puts up good a good season this year with 55+ starts he can probably do much better than 5 × 4.5m. I really think term will be key with him, I'd be shocked if he signed for 2 or 3 years.
