Not true. He killed royalty income trusts and sent a signal that state owned enterprise investments were not welcome. Both were major sources of capital and therefore activity drivers in our province, and industry has yet to generate an answer to either of those decisions.

It's the fight that Harper picked. Dion and Ignatieff were both destroyed by attacks on their personalities. So the Liberals went with the charming leader.

Lol yikes. Some of the rhetoric in this election was pretty bad. I'm really glad this election is over.

As for Trudeau, I feel a lot better about him now than I did before the election. He ran a fantastic campaign and smartly countered everything the conservatives threw at him, that has to count for something towards his capability. If he starts undoing some of the major damage that Harper has done over the years (long census form, slashing scientific research funding, make gov't more transparent) and follow through on his promise to reform the FPTP system then he'll have my vote in the future
Getting 100+ seats isn't exactly losing badly. It's a loss, but it's not like they got annihilated like the liberals in 2011.

Also curious about the fear and rhetoric bit of the last 9 years? Please don't tell my your gonna use the niqab debate as an argument.

I don't know if it was arrogance or his ego, but I got the impression from Harper that he thought the attacks against him personaly would not be a factor in the outcome.

I see quite a few Confederation residents on Twitter and Facebook that are really pissed off at NDP voters. They are keeping Grant out of office.

Albertans need to learn to be more flexible with their vote, and they might get campaigned to a bit more seriously. There's a reason why barely any of the leaders even came to Alberta.

Besides, Alberta just had their guy in power for a decade and Im not sure Harper did much in advancing this provinces cause for the long-term. I don't feel like Alberta's prospects today are better than they were 10 years ago, do you? While the entire world is slowly, but surely, moving forward on issues about the environment and energy, the CP's strategy was not to adapt, but to just try to hammer on the brakes. That might have helped to pad those bonus checks for people for a few years, but in the long-term the O&G industry is not in a pretty place. Can't blame the Liberals for that.

That's not right, people should vote for whoever they support. I told Green supporters all week to vote Green.

Glad to hear Harper isn't doing the cop out like Prentice and resigning, being responsible to the people who voted for him. Kind of excited to see who the next leader of the CPC will be.

Exactly. Proportional representation would essentially eliminate the strategic voting nonsense. The problem isn't the voters, the problem is the flawed system.

The niqab stuff was just a cherry on top. Fear mongering about drugs, arguing for tougher prison sentences despite all of the research showing how bad of an idea that is. Fear mongering about how ISIS will destroy Canada without Harper to protect us. Fear mongering about how the economy will collapse if Harper isn't there to guide it

I really don't get how you can be curious about the conservatives using fear in their messaging, that's been their entire platform for the last few years, and especially during the election

Decimated means one in ten killed, not a significant defeat...where the 'deci' comes from
(Sorry, it's a gear grinder for me, and it was used incorrectly twice in two sentences.)

No, thats very correct, you cant blame the Liberals for the current situation any more than you can blame anyone else and we as Albertans certainly do need to learn to be more flexible with our votes.

But come on, the political parties have to hold up their end too, the NDP isnt helping their case and the Liberals will have to otherwise everyone just goes back to their comfort zone.

All I'm saying is that the world isnt going to end tomorrow but I'm lamenting the fact that as time goes on and these necessary changes happen we as Albertans are not only not at the table where the decisions are made, we are now an inconsequential after-thought.
