Expect a similar "one to the group" original trilogy team. At this stage, you have to imagine Luke is still in the process of rebuilding the Order. There can't be that many yet.
My friend, a Star Wars nut, made the point that even at the time of the prequels, many people had still not seen a Jedi in person. They weren't THAT numerous even at their height.

I'd think, even those that did see a Jedi probably didn't realize it.
It's not like they walked around with light sabre drawn. They looked like regular people (aliens?) and would break out their mad Jedi skills when need be.

So I had a thought on the ultimate enemy in this new trilogy if its not going to be a Sith Lord. Follow me along children
In Phantom Menace the trade federation blockades Naboo, home to two civilizations, the Naboo and the Gunguns. For hundreds of years the Gungun had been hated and ostracized by the Naboo. The Jedi illegally started a war with the Trade Federation who at that point had a legal blockade according to the Senate. The Jedi actions lead to an invasion of Naboo. In a sense the Jedi started the war.
Once on the planet Qui-Gon, who was a noted Jedi renegade ran into a Gungun named Jar Jar Binks who befriended them and manipulated them into a furhter confrontation with the Trade Federation. Jar Jar Binks later returned to the planet Naboo and lead an insurgency against a police action by the Trade Federation that had not been declared illegal by the Senate. At the same time Jar Jar Binks manipulated Queen Amidala into a more aggressive military action, this lead to the down fall of Supreme Chanceller Valorum, and the election of Supreme Chanceller Palpatine.
Binks, now a hero on Naboo is elected into the senate as the Gungun representative.
Flash forward several years. Now Senator Amidala returns to the Senate to vote in a crucial vote against the militarization of the Republic. She is attacked by "disgruntled spice miners from the moon around Naboo. She is forced to flee the planet but before she leaves she gives her vote to Jar Jar Binks.
Jar Jar Binks then uses this proxy to speak on behalf of the Naboo and votes in favor of giving Supreme Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers suspending the Republic Constitution.
At this point, order 66 is initiated fairly soon after and Palpatine becomes the Emperor, Jar Jar Binks facilitated the rise of the Empire.
One of Palpatines first acts (EU) is to assassinate the reigning queen of Naboo and subjugate its people (Star Wars Battlefront). Jar Jar Binks has gained revenge for the Gungun's over the Naboo, and is now in Palpatines close personal inner circle.
Do you want to know who the villain is in the next Star Wars movie? Let me give you a hint "Wesa gonna kill you all"
Jar Jar Binks was the Phantom Menace.

I has a sad.
Apparently Abrams approached Dennis Lawson about reprising the role of Wedge Antilles in the new films, and he turned him down saying it would "bore" him.

I'm not gonna lie...that's a crappy attitude to take towards the role. Wedge was an important character in the EU and it's not a stretch to see the same thing happening in this new sequel timeline. I suppose it's been long enough that a recast won't bother people too much, but hey...if they can get other actors to reprise roles, what makes him so special?

He turned it down because the role was pretty much what it was in the original three. Brief, small and background. He said he gladly would have taken it if Wedge's role was increased. Can't say I blame him. The guy knows what the character did in the EU, and was fine with doing the Rogue Squadron 2. But he's moved on from that small part, why go back for two minutes of screen time over three movies?

I have concerns when casts start getting enormous. Its difficult to develop that many characters in a reasonable amount of time.

Well a lot of the cast could be roles like Jimmy Smits played in the prequels. I know if I was an actor I'd take an extra role just to say i was in Star Wars!

Agreed. Nice to see them bring it back to the old school.
I was doing some sleuthing and I turned up this about the Star Wars puppets:
Quote:
In addition to his own puppetry projects, Henson aided others in their work. In 1979, he was asked by the producers of the Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back to aid make-up artist Stuart Freeborn in the creation and articulation of enigmatic Jedi Master Yoda. Henson suggested to Star Wars creator George Lucas that he use Frank Oz as the puppeteer and voice of Yoda. Oz voiced Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back and each of the four subsequent Star Wars films. The naturalistic, lifelike Yoda became one of the most popular characters of the Star Wars franchise. Lucas even lobbied unsuccessfully to have Oz nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.[25]

I think I may have heard about this before, but never believed it. Pretty cool stuff.

JJ Abrams wants people to stop speculating that the Millennium Falcon will be in Episode VII...
...Also, that circular chess board inside the Falcon definitely won't be in the movie either.
