But on watching back it's a complete fluke. Despite what the commentators are saying there WAS a deflection by Vidal.
Buffon is getting set for the opposite corner which it looks where Alaba is trying to bend it out to. The ball starts in that direction, the deflection gives the weird swerve and he's flatfooted.

Blatant, deliberate studs up stamping down the back of Vidal's leg. Late and not even close to where the ball was.
Could have easily broken his leg and if Clattenburg or any of the officials saw it, it was a no brainer straight red.
The worst of it was Clattenburg then called Vidal over later for remonstrating.
