Such a disappointing loss. Very interested to hear what Ward has to say (especially about that ridiculous ending where Orr cross checked Desbiens to try and get him to fight when Desbiens had no reason to).
Ben Scrivens was easily the difference this game. Heat should've won it.
1704 attendance for the second round of the playoffs?
No offense to our Abbotsford posters who regularly attend games, but I think the Flames picked a bad location. Somewhere in Sask would have likely been better, if that was an option.
Still would have been in close proximity to CGY, but also a few hours further West which would benefit the AHL travel schedule.....and probably a lot more Flames fans, and a lot less Canuck fans.

Can't agree more. Whoever in the Flames organization pitched the sale to Abbotsford City Council is a very very good salesman (or woman).
Abbotsford's a good location from the standpoint that it's a hockey crazy area... if that hockey is Canucks related.
I think Saskatoon or Regina would have been a good spot depending on if you can convert some of the Pats or Blades season ticket holders into Heat season ticket holders.
Just an awful night overall. Nobody in the stands and a loss for the team.
He added, "we have our standards...". So I'm guessing it's just a matter of Kolanos being way too big of a floater last game, so he was given a time-out this game and will be back in tomorrow.
Here's the thing that some people might come on here and have an issue with Ward about: he took Kolanos and Reinhart out of tonight's lineup - two guys that can be game changers. I understand him sitting Kolanos. I don't understand him sitting Reinhart.
With that said, the team played great tonight from the sounds of it. They were the more physical team, and they had way more shots and chances than Toronto. They were simply the better team and that's without Special K and Reinhart.
It's just one of those games.

I thought it was the City of Abbotsford who approached the Flames. They first went to the Nucks, who were happy with their arrangement in Winnipeg, so Calgary was next on their list.
The Flames weren't happy with things in Quad Cities, so they took up Abbotsford on the offer (especially after the city agreed to cover their losses due to the increase in travel).

You're right. I meant the whole deal surrounding the team. The fact that the City of Abbotsford has to pay the Flames for shortcomings in revenue while the Flames give Abbotsford a certain percentage if there's great revenue. That's all I meant by the sales pitch.
The City of Abbotsford got the raw end of the deal no doubt, but hindsight is 20/20.
It's sort of weird, stupid dynamic here though. The citizens are pissed off because the city made this deal and taxpayers have to make up for it... so they refuse to support the team. How much sense does that make?
Like I said earlier, the Abbotsford market is saturated with Canucks fans, not hockey fans. If there were more hockey fans, the Heat would have no problem getting 5000 fans out per game.
Honestly, I think they should just play the Heat out of Calgary. You'd have to think they'd draw much better and there'd probably be a lot of economies of scale in operating 3 hockey teams out of one building. and City.

So that throws a tiny bit of a curveball to the organization.
Now, assuming Irving earns the backup job in Calgary, Karlsson will probably be sent to Abbotsford and refuse to play. Then he'll probably refuse to play here and go back to Sweden. Which leave Abbotsford with Danny Taylor... maybe, if they sign him to another SPC.
Then the Flames will have to do some scouting to try and get another goalie.

Andrew Engelage was good in Utah and at the prospects camp, but he may not fit the mould of what they want.
Kari Ramo may yet find his way over here. However, Karlsson would need to be a lock to head back to Europe.
On the baby team location issue, You could put a team in Red Deer and it would sell twice what Abbotsford could. Shoot, there's enough hardcore fans in Calgary, you could probably just keep it here. Let them play in the Corral or something. There always seems to be more people watching Abbotsford in Calgary anyways when they visit here than in Abbotsford itself.
