Or I could wait till the TF300T is released, which should drive down the price on the original TF.

I like the first Transformer because of the community support on XDA. Plus, it should be fast enough for me. The microSD and HDMI slots are also an upgrade on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which has neither, and is more expensive.

With 15% of the tablet market in Canada - you and I have very different definitions of "dead".

Downloaded the update for my PlayBook about an hour ago and so far I really like the update. Everyone talks about the email client but personally my favorite update is for the keyboard and the browser. It seems like they optimized a lot on the browser. Browsing. Calgarypuck on the device seems a lot smoother than before (especially scrolling).

With the bridge application on your Blackberry phone and paired with the Playbook, you can use your Blackberry touch screen (gestures and all) or the track pad, as basically a remote control/mouse for the Playbook.

You can also use the blackberry keyboard to type on the Playbook when paired.

It goes past that...if your device has the right bluetooth profile, you can pair the phone with that device (say another tablet, like an android tablet) and use the trackpad/keyboard from the Blackberry on that tablet (Ipad, surprise, doesn't have that Bluetooth profile).

So, hook up the Playbook via HDMI to a TV and surf from the couch using your phone to navigate and type.

I think I saw that survey as well - not sure the details of it other than it asked 1,000 people.

For actual sales though, the playbook sold 150,000 in the last quarter versus 15,000,000 iPads in the recent quarter I believe. At a 100:1 ratio versus the iPad alone and not even including other android tablets, the survey numbers look a little off perhaps? (Not to mention the millions upon millions of previous tablet sales before the recently reported quarter sales numbers.)

I haven't dug deeper into the numbers; perhaps most of the playbook sales were in Canada and a lot fewer iPad (and other tablet) sales proportionally here to make up the 15% they quote.

But really at the end of the day, RIM had to take a massive loss just to sell at the numbers that they have. I doubt that is sustainable and I'd guess their shares would be hit even harder if go loss leader again on a new tablet just to get some (temporary?) market share.

EDIT: Here are some more numbers - keep in mind that it's worldwide and not just Canada (when comparing for the 15% survey number) Also note the shipped versus actual sales numbers:

Total iPad sales to Dec 2011 - 55,000,000(ish)

Playbook
Q1 shipped not sold - 500,000
Q2 shipped not sold - 200,000
Q3 sold - 150,000
Total sold - less than 800,000 or 1.5% versus just the iPad models. Maybe closer to 1% worldwide when you add the other android tablet models?

<sigh> well I was just telling you guys that the new OS is out and that it was promised to be out today and seems to include everything it was supposed to. I didn't mean to bring out every RIM hater on the board, or talk about RIM and their business model. I have the Playbook, love it and am happy with the very limited use I've had so far on 2.0.

So original Asus Transformer for $330? Brand new with a bunch of accessories like a case, stand, microSD card. Worth it? Or should I wait till their new low-cost option comes out which drives down the price of the original one?

I agree with you. The fact that I can't even be bothered to figure out what apps I want tells me I have no need to pay the extra cash for an ipad. Plus I honestly prefer the size of the playbook. I wouldn't mind having netflix access and a sonos controller though.

I've never been a blackberry fan but I love the PlayBook. So far the new browser and keyboard have been great.

The only real option I'd like to have is usb on the go. Apparently the playbook is capable of thus hopefully it will be out soon. I would love to able to plug my camera in to it when I'm out taking pics...

The original will hardly drop anymore. Asus is already making next to nothing on the tablet.

Thank you for bringing it up today. Love the 2.0 OS.

All in all though, the update does seem to be well received - it'll be interesting to see what RIM does in regards to support going forward.

A few questions for any Playbook users who have upgraded to the 2.0 OS. I'm holding off right now due to some horror stories I'm reading about on the Crackberry.com forums. What was your upgrade experience like? Did you experience any problems during or after the upgrade? Did you upgrade using a WiFi connection or through Desktop Manager? Did you perform a security wipe or debrick procedure prior to upgrading?

I reverted to non-beta OS about a week before, and then the update went really smoothly. The only problem I had was I forgot to charge the playbook the night before, so it took a while to get enough juice.

I just upgraded straight from the beta to OS 2.0 and haven't had any issues. I for some reason can't get my exchange email to sync, which is irritating, but could be an issue on that end as well. I might do a full wipe and redo it, just to see if that helps.

Honestly though, 2.0 basically delivers as promised as far as I can tell.

Took me awhile to figure out how to get my POP3 email on there, but after some bb forum searching found one that had some solutions. Had to turn off SSL and change the port on the SMTP. The default settings were holding it up.

Synced up the calendar and contacts from my BB Torch to gmail and then synced that to the playbook so that's all operational now.

Liking the new keyboard options but still playing around with pretty much everything else. Have to organize all my icons again. I did like the default tabs to categorize everything so will have to figure something out there.

I still have BBM notifiers I can't get rid of though from the bridge. I deleted every conversation I had going and I still have them there. Anyone know how to get rid of those?

Woke up, waited for the update to download, waited for the install. During this I showered.

The worst part of that was realizing I left my toothpaste at work.

On a more serious note, no issues during set up, updated over wifi and did absolutely nothing prior to updating.

I upgraded straight over wifi as well without doing anything else and it was easy with no problems. It works great.

Netflix Refuses to Support RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet

Netflix sucker-punched Research In Motion yesterday evening via Twitter, where the company stated, "We don’t have any current plans to support Blackberry devices, incluing [sic] Playbook." They didn't even bother to spell check, or capitalize the "B" in BlackBerry and PlayBook! That's how little Netflix cares about RIM.

As part of the release of OS 2.0 there are a pair of free games in App World. One is a FPS and the other is a racing game. Both are pretty sweet if you like that kind of thing!

What are some of the good apps for 2.0?
