EDIT: I do agree if they are out of the playoff race it makes more sense to trade him. I guess I'm suggesting if they are in the race, a 5th isn't worth it.

You may be right, and trading Vladar disrupts Wolf's mindset. I do believe he has that 'unflappable' quality in him, however. I also think that it may not affect Wolf negatively - perhaps it signals to him that this is now 'his team' and 'his net'? Maybe this gives him confidence and he feeds off of it? You are correct, however, that there is a risk it becomes disruptive.

I also like to look at it from Vladar's perspective. The guy is getting thrown to the wolves (pun not intended) with his usage somewhat. I think he needs a change of scenery now, and a bit of room to showcase himself in order to get a new contract. Not sure that's exactly fair to Cooley, but I do think that Wolf will start seeing some tougher situations even if Vladar isn't shipped out. It just would be nice to see Vladar get a chance to catch on somewhere else, as he is not getting re-signed here.

Which is why its not worth freaking out until something actually happens.

Every year it is the same. There is a lot of chatter to drum up clicks and radio listens.

"What's wrong with Conroy, potentially doing something I do not like? " Outrage !!!

Also makes sense a guy like Frank would say that on Calgary radio knowing it would freak people out, myselfd included.
What really makes sense is to take any of these interviews with rumour/click guys with a huge grain of salt and don't rush to your key board to over react.

For what it's worth, Friedman basically said something similar today on 32 Thoughts Pod.

So, *shrugs*

You mean Friedman speculated that they may or may not consider inquiring about something potentially?

That Conroy, as a former player, knows the team deserves some help. But is weighing that against the plan.

He wasn't saying this is what he'd heard they would do, just what he thought they could do and why he though that.

So for all we know (despite the recent injury to Bahl) Conroy has zero intention to do this.

Feels like much ado about nothing.
Might as well just ask one of the Oiler fans that post on CP about the Flames they have the same info. Heck he probably is one of them.

I hope you all remember your "Morale" and the idea that we should reward this hive of losers when they inevitably suck terribly next season.

We're choosing now over the actual future. It's dumb.

Are you under the impression that what we, individually or collectively, want the Flames to do determines what they will do?

Cooley is likely getting a primary shot as the backup next year based on his play this year, so the Flames are going to be in the position soon regardless.

I'd also prefer to reward him for his play in the AHL this year and see him get 5-10 NHL games before the season is over to see how he looks as an NHL backup before giving him the reigns next year.

It's utterly hilarious anyone would bleat this nonsense about something so completely out of our control.

Nobody's choosing anything. Just understanding that the Organization is considering making "now" moves as an option. Just a friendly reminder that they've literally done nothing of the sort and this reaction is solely based off of media pinings and conversations that came from those click bait statements.

C'mon. No reason to be like this.

The point wasn't yes or no to moving Vladar/giving Cooley a shot. I'm with you on wanting to see Cooley get a shot at some point. It was purely that the third string needs to be considered. If you move Vladar and aren't planning to tank, you probably need to pick up another goalie for the third string.

"hive of losers"?

Imagine not enjoying this season or being this way as a fan.

You do you, but seems pretty not-fun.

Nothing could improve this team more as well as staying in our rebuild than finding an under 25 top six center. Out of our 8 wing positions we have 3 locked up long term in huby, sharkbait and Coleman. It looks like scoronato and pelts have earned another year; thats 5. We also have duer, kuz, lombo, and pospisil.

Stromgren is ready to come up, Honzek probably next year as well as klapka. Then we have basha, battaglia, I Dar Suniev, gridin and misa if he projects more as a winger.

Expending some of those wing assets as well as two firsts and two seconds this year, we have the assets to swing for a center we dont have the room for all those wingers, and we saw what an injury to zary did to our depth.

Conroy find that center.

Perhaps, I just don't feel like you can ever be fully confident about your 3rd stringer as most of the guys you'd want already have an NHL backup job.

They had Dansk in the system as that guy the last couple years, but I wouldn't feel any more comfortable about him than Ignatiew

I wonder whether next year the Flames go out and get another Dansk-type guy for that... he's not going to be that good though. And they've got Sergeev in the system too who they may want to play pro next year and probably not buried in the ECHL.

Yikes, on the spectrum of bad takes, this is up there.

First of all the team has zero pending free agents that have any value, so holding on to guys like Kuzmenko, Rooney, Hanley, Vladar will cost them nothing.

If they spend a 5th, 6th or 7th rounder to bring in some depth, meh. It will show that management has their backs, but doesn't really cost them anything.
