Duehr has to return to playing like he did 2 seasons ago. Last season's Duehr was below-replacement level.

Pelletier is not going to be risked on waivers, so I imagine he stays up, and even ahead of Coronato for that very reason. Is it fair? No, but life isn't always fair. It wasn't fair that Pelletier got a bit derailed by injuries either. Flames need to prioritize youth, and anyone with even a glimmer of upside shouldn't be exposed to waivers until everyone is certain their is no NHL upside or value around the league. Pelletier also really ripped it up in his rookie pro season in the AHL.

Pelletier and Solovyov have to be on the team. You aren't going to allow Pelleiter or Solovyov to be potentially claimed by someone just to have Rooney and Hanley on the roster. Pelletier and Solovyov may or may not be a piece of the future, but Rooney and Hanley are definitely not pieces for the future.

Duehr was one of the bigger disappointments for me this past season. I thought he might take a step forward, but he took a giant leap backwards. Nice blend of size and speed.

He's on a one way, correct?

I wonder if he is just one of those guys that Darryl can get more out of than another coach.

He is, but the entire amount can be buried in the AHL.

Darryl's game will result in larger and low skilled players getting mediocre stats. My concern is that once the game opens up and Duehr actually has to apply his own skills, he may not actually be that good.

This may also be a case of the fanbase getting excited about a prospect who capped out as a 4th/3rd line guy, but now that we have legit higher end prospects coming through, we are going to forget all about him.

Could be, but the eye test made him look legit. 7 goals and 11 points in only 27 games in the 2022-23 season, too. Played a fairly good physical game too, with only 4 PIM.

Sure, but 6 of those points came in a 6-game span. Otherwise, just 5 points in 21 games, which is far closer to his stats from last year.

Pelletier is going to need to have a good camp. They are not going to gift him a spot because of waivers.

Walker looked good, he had good speed. Bottom line players like him have roles with a Sutter team that why they get more ice and can look better.

They can send Pelletier down during the 400 players waived at once to the minors day. If his camp is poor its unlikely he gets claimed.

Pelletier won't be sent down. They'll keep him up and trade him if it gets that dire.

He'll rotate in and out of the 4L with Lomberg.

Of course here's hoping he has a great camp and stays in the top 9

This regime seems to give more rope to younger players, and on top of that they are rebuilding.

Solovyov and Pelletier are going to have to get injured or bomb in camp not to be on the opening day roster IMO.

I don't know how much of a market there is for an under-sized energy forward.

Judging by track record... good chance Pelletier gets hurt this season.

Yeah, there is really no reason to not give him more rope next season regardless. The Flames can afford to give him some extra runway. I am not that optimistic about his upside, but I'd rather try everything before potentially letting loose a former 1st rounder.

It's not like this team is in the playoffs or bust mode where they can't risk it. It would be different if we were in a window right now.

I’m hopeful, but skeptical about Pelletier.

A 5’9” 170lbs winger almost needs to be an elite scorer or elite hockey IQ to make his mark.

Playing the role he seems to be tracking towards, he needs minimum 3-4 more inches and at least 20 more pounds just to tread water. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Stromgren and Honzek have passed him by at years end.

Also don’t like to say, or see it, but his timid play after getting hurt isn’t going to bode well for him solidifying his spot in the NHL whether it be with the Flames or otherwise.

Best case scenario. We get him and trade him back to the NYI, Devils or Flyers and then he takes out Fox with one of his 'clean' hits!

However, as of right now the lineup is pretty congested at the forward group:

Huberdeau - Backlund - Coleman
Zary - Sharangovich - Mantha
Pospisil - Kadri - Kuzmenko
Lomberg - _____ - _____

I feel like there's 2 slots available but potentially 4th line spots unless you move Pospisil/Mantha down?

Duehr/Rooney are the best fits for 4th line
Pelletier & Coronato for youth with guys like Sam Mortin, Klapka and Stromgren equally ready it seems.

Almost seemingly feels like the Flames need to move more UFA's ( Kuzmenko, Duehr, Rooney, Mantha) or we could see the youth saddled in the AHL again and wait for a trade.
I wonder if they try Zary at C this year?

Huberdeau-Sharangovich-Mantha
Pospisil-Kadri-Kuzmenko
Coleman-Zary-Coronato
Lomberg-Backlund-Klapka/Pelletier
Rooney

Bahl-Weegar
Bean-Andersson
Solovyov-Miromanov
Pachal

I wouldn't want to risk Pelletier, Klapka or Solovyov on waivers.
