That was the first game we bought. I played with my brother - one of us would control the gun while the other controlled the walking. The tension when you walked through a series of empty, silent rooms, and then an SS would storm in and yell "Halt!" was crazy.

Best was when you could get an SS to shoot one of their own. Just like how another SS (Steve Smith) scored a historic own goal.

Ken Holland ruined the career of Koekkoek.

"I wanted more ice time, I was a healthy scratch a lot. Ken Holland looked at me and he said you're a clock killer. You don't do anything positive on the ice, but you don't do anything negative either.

So TSN was falling over themselves to proclaim that Mavi can get his money and stay in greaserville. Let’s ignore that he might not want to for now.

The premise is that the cap will go up for the next season, or the last season Mavi is under contract, by $5 to $92. Let’s also ignore that boo boo will need more, and everyone’s favourite d that hasn’t won a Norris emberson yet might also need money if he goes UFA.

Let’s say that Mavi consumes the full $5 mill on July 1. Maybe max spend per contract limits this, but for our purposes the max consumes most of that cap increase. Will the difference be enough to sign boo boo?

Better yet, what if Mavi decides to wait for the additional cap increase the following season…say June 15, 2026. Mavi is UFA on July 1, 2026. If Mavi can wait that long for the additional cap increase of say another $5 million, then he could get his share of the $10 million in cap. But…if he waits that long why wouldn’t he just wait another 2 weeks?

What if the second increase is $10 million?

In other words, there is no doubt that the oilers will give him everything that they can this July 1, but knowing that there’s more money coming…does he wait it out? Do others sign first, or do they wait it out too?

And what about the implosion if there’s any delay in signing?

I think Mavi holds all of the cards.

The alternative is that he signs immediately on July 1, takes all the free cap and cap increase, and leaves peanuts for boo boo.

I suppose he could leave millions on the table for boo boo, but that doesn’t really seem to be his MO. And why should he? This could be his last contract.

Also e=ng.

I read this article and I would be shocked if Broberg and Holloway didn’t have a similar story about contract negotiations, lowball offers, and why they were happy to get out.

No good.

Max contract is 20% of the max cap. So if the cap is 97M McDavid should demand $19.4M. Times 8. Payable up front as much as possible.

Hear, hear.

You'd never hear Conroy say that to even the most fringe roster player.

Hard to believe they actually potentially downgraded on character with the next gm from that^ guy, but they just find a way.

Oilers problems are solved. They got their defenseman. They have claimed defenseman Alex Regula on waivers from Boston.

Poor Emberson, now there’s even more competition for the Norris.

I see what they are doing now, they know that they don't know how to draft, so they just pick up players drafted by other team.

Regula was Boo-Boo's D partner with the London Knights.

Regula hasn't played a game all season.

Oilers' player development strategy: keep claiming players off waivers because, surely, one of them will be the key to putting the Stanley Cup puzzle together. They just need to be diligent and keep trying!

So oilers have exhausted former Mavi agents, Mavi coaches, Mavi medical team, and even former Mavi junior line mates, so now working through other oilers former junior line mates and d partners?

Lenard and the Garth brooks banners should be concerned…very easily replaced.

I see he picked up the local accent while he was in Boston.
