Conroy's been after Dawson Mercer for a while. Nice one, Sec214!

Aren't qualifying offers set to expire league wide today? Not exactly breaking news if there are a bunch of signings or if a players offer expires.

Bourgault is a small skilled player who has 54 points in 117 games in the AHL? Not sure what upside he has.
Rather just have the depth player that is likely to be an NHL player at this point. Jarventie is a big kid too. Not sure how physical he is?

Bourgault is 6'0"
Jarventie is 6'2" and has been more productive in the A. But OTT doesn't seem to agree that he is more likely to be the NHLer.
In all likelihood, they are both middling prospects, but it will be interesting to see if either breaks out.

I'm not sure what Sec's been hearing so I cant comment on that!
The only name I've been told Calgary is keeping an eye on is Kakko, but I did say this last time so apologize for the lack of real update.
Funny enough, there's been some rumblings out of NYR and some of their beat writers that a trade with Calgary is being explored. I cant confirm this, so take it with a grain of salt in terms of this proposed trade.
I feel this is more "what NYR" want VS's a legit trade rumor but here's what I've heard:
To NYR:
Weegar
To CGY:
Kakko
Trouba
Sykora
2nd round pick
1. Trouba has no desire to move, which is why I doubt the validity to this rumour.
2. CGY has no desire to trade Weegar from what I've been told.
3. Kakko is a name Calgary's been targeting for certain, but not in a deal like this.

If the Rangers want Weegar, they have to be offering Lafreniere++ at the minimum

That would be terrible return for Weegar IMO...and pretty sure that rumour was just something a fan blogger made up and not really anything substantial.

Thanks for the info and thoughts! But no thanks to the trade!
I lean towards moving Ras at some point and Weegar takes over as captain once Backs is done/wants to try to win somewhere and we facilitate a trade.

Saw (in the Athletic, maybe), that the Rangers screwed up the Detroit-Trouba trade by letting it leak before he had to submit his list on July 1, and then he just put Detroit on the iist.
If true, I would assume he put Calgary on that list too, since we already know he doesn't want to leave New York, and it was fairly obvious that Calgary would have the cap room to take him on.
But he just has the 15-team list, not a NMC, so he could be waived and the Rangers work out a side deal with someone.

Trouba didn't want to play in Winnipeg or even his hometown Detroit. I would be shocked if Calgary wasn't on his list, but regardless if we made the list, I doubt he would want to play in Western Canada for a rebuilding team at this point in his career. He has malcontent written all over him which is the last thing we need.
The only thing we could offer him is to promise flip him to a contender at some point.

So taking out the players who don't want to move or the team doesn't want to move the trade would be:
Kakko, Sykora and 2nd for... Future considerations. Seems a bit of a steep price to pay but I'd be okay if Conroy can make that work!

Edmonton wins this trade by a mile IMO. They got a 6’2” goal-scoring power forward who can skate, and the Sens got spare change. The only reason for trading Jarventie would be his defensive game, but he has a good chance to play.

Yeah, that sounds like a fan blog trade: Kakko in rumours, and Flames interested; Rangers would covet Weegar; Trouba in rumours to be moved...
Smash them all together and a couple throw ins to make it sound reasonable (from 1 side)
So often, fan trades look like:
An 8 for a 4 + 2 + 2 + 2
which is what this one looks like

I thought I read somewhere on the weekend that Trouba has told the Rangers even if he is traded to someone on noon his list, he is not going to report. Can't find the link now and I honestly don't remember who it was, so not sure if it was valid or not. However, the article broke down how his NMC to 15 no trade list was timed with the end of his wife's residency and that her residency was postponed fora year, and then they had a baby. Said he had no intentions of leaving her and the 9 month old baby for a training camp before she was done.
