I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention.
The guy is owed 3.25 mill after game 10. What a joke.

Getting more attention? There are still 73 games left in their schedule - let's see how things play out before we start an investigation

oh sweet summer child
guy has a bonus that will really ruin the Oilers cap next season and it kicks in game 10
In game 9 with zero points he gets injured doing nothing and skates off gingerly

Don’t really see the issue though. You think they had him fake it so he can’t play the 10th game? Why would he do that? If they don’t want him to play the 10th game and pay the bonus next year they can just do that, they don’t need an injury for it, just bench him. Waive him down, doubtful anyone claims him and if they do they get the bonus hit.

Guy is made of glass though. Unless he is getting an actual under the table payment from Katz there is no way he agrees as he won't get anywhere close to this payout if he is out with an injury again.

^ Because it's Edmonton.
Like Smith going down with a career ending injury even though he played out the season to the very last buzzer with no signs of being crippled. And Keith getting coaxed into early retirement.
They go straight to the shady route of dealing with their problems because the collective brain trust isn't bright enough to find a solution that's within the parameters of league rules.
Timing is just too impeccable to not be an Edmonton thing.
If this supposed injury happened in game 6 it would be far less suspect and maybe even legitimate.

I mean the question is one of incentive. Why would Connor Brown hurt his chances of another 3 mil?
to help the team?

I dunno. Maybe after the first few games, there were like, look dude, we've seen enough and you're done in this league. We'll give you a couple more farewell games, and then pay you $3.25 million under the table to go on LTIR and not play a 10th game. Have to make it seem like he was hurt in the game though to give them plausible deniability.
They probably made similar agreements with Keith and Smith as well.

I think if we don't see him back within a reasonable time window or upgraded to LTIR, it will be all but confirmed that they're paying these players off under the table to cheat their way out of cap problems.
I wonder what sort of penalties the league would have in mind for such conduct.

What's to stop the Oilers from just waiving him or putting him in the press box? Why would they risk a likely heavy fine trying to get around this when they don't need to?

He can’t go on LTIR unless there’s a perceived injury.

He is apparently really close with McDavid and everything they do is to keep McDavid happy. I can't imagine it would go over well with McDavid if he thought the Oilers cheated his buddy from getting paid.
Generally speaking, it wouldn't be a good look to other players that might be inclined to sign bonus laden contracts with the Oilers in the future either. This way, the Oilers could always just say it wasn't their fault he was injured.
I'm not dying on this hill, but it does just seem too much of a coincidence that it was in game 9, he didn't look injured, and they are not disclosing what the injury is. Then you have Smith and Keith helping the team by just walking away from contracts. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's Ken Holland.
We'll see what happens though. If he comes back to play a 10th game, I'll eat crow.

So Browny boy...I think your broken legs if you try to come back for a 10th game are telling you that you're done this year. By the way, here's a Swiss account with 4 million in it for your understandable cooperation. As a precaution, we've put poison ivy in your gear in case you need an allergy excuse. None of this will reach the ears your buddy pal McDavid who we'd prefer not become upset with the organization's handling of a friend...All right? With all that said, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank-you for your expected loyalty.

We won't see Brown again. Off to injury island before that 3.2M bonus hit's next year's cap.

I'm not sure how his contract is written, but I believe a player can file a grievance to get paid the games played bonus if he got injured and only missed it by a game.
