7,8,9 for the 9th though. Left the meat of the Rays lineup stranded in the 8th
Edit: I had meant 7,8,9 for the Rays. Didn’t realize that was what was up for Jays too

Old baseball adage...never make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base....and Espinal just showed why

Why not just challenge it? It's close enough where they could overturn it and it is the 9th inning

I know Varsho has been underwhelming at the plate at times, but my view is that on a net basis he's been a very positive addition.

Oh 100%.
He’s a 3.2 WAR player right now, and about 80% of that is made up by his defensive metrics

This didn't age very well. Have some faith!

Royals tried to give it away but they held on to win 7-5. Texas won as well. Since Seattle has the harder schedule I’m all for them continuing to lose to get us in. Ideal out of town scoreboard for us.

Hope they can get move on from him and Chapman and break the bank on a legit star. This season has been rough.

Unless I missed a quote, this looks like another case of a media headline misrepresenting what was said. KK simply said he likes the AL East and likes the field at Yankee Stadium and Fenway. When I saw the headline, I thought it was odd for a player to say he wants to play for a rival in the middle of a playoff chase.

Ok good, so he didn't actually say that? I thought that was really weird when I read bluejays post.

He said:
“I like the AL East. I’ve played in the division my entire career. I especially like here and Fenway,” Kiermaier said this week, when his Blue Jays won the first two of three games against the Yankees but lost Thursday’s finale, 5-3. “Feel like I’m always hitting homers here or playing well."
“Being on the turf my entire career, I enjoy being on the grass. My body feels so much better being on grass.”
I think it's more Yankees media and fans taking a quote and running with it. I remember players say they enjoy playing at Rogers Centre but not end up signing in Toronto.

Obviously KK is fine with turf if he signed in Toronto.
Who doesn’t prefer grass? Not one player. Non story. Irritating that got so overblown

So is that positively underwhelming, or underwhelmingly positive?

Well the bats didn’t really come through, Tampa Bay pitching just absolutely imploded with control issues. Still good for the jays to stay patient once it started to happen and take advantage, including the stolen bases.

Not me. I would still take 4 WAR Moreno as a piece over him, in a heartbeat.

We’ll see trades generally aren’t won or lost in the first year. That they’re as close as they are after as poor a hitting season Varsho has had is something at least. I do agree that having that catcher especially with Jansen out would be huge. But they bet on catchers they had over Moreno and well Jansen got hurt and Kirk has had a mediocre year. Who knows what will happen next year.
