They'll pick first overall and the Flames will pick second and like with all their previous first overall picks, the player chosen second will be a future Stanley Cup champion.

I know this will be sacrilege, but if you’re the Oil, do you consider trading McDavid / Draisatl?
Logic being, they obviously won’t re-sign with you, trading them now maximizes return with term left on their relatively inexpensive contracts. You aren’t winning with them, obviously, so may as well cash in?

If I'm the Oilers, I'm spending my 1st and 2nd round picks for this season and next season in an attempt to fix this thing.
I'm also firing the coach and going after a proven winner (Coach Q?).
You have to try and win with those guys. Once those guys leave, the Oilers will be starting from scratch.

Yes, but their cap issues are pretty insurmountable. The only way they are adding pieces is if they can find takers for Nurse and Campbell. Campbell costs them a 1st for sure, so they can't use it to acquire anyone.

Coach Q should be in place by Remembrance Day. I just hope the Oilers do not do it. He could turn around that team and make them a playoff team quite easily and then anything could happen.
