It's a deep draft and our team needs cheap young players who can contribute to come in.
I would rather keep our pick and let the scouts who have done a pretty good job with our firsts get to pick a player.
Also you never know what happens with injuries that could derail a season.

Stamkos got 45 points as an 18 year old and then 51 goals and 95 points as a 19 year old
Maybe you are thinking of someone else ?

I like Kakko better than Laf at this point. He’s a 6’3” RW, and can skate. He gets better every year, bit by bit.

I'm surprised Bowen Byram has only played 59 games in his entire career thus far.
He seems like a great player, but he's constantly injured.

This is pie in the sky and these never happen, wonder if there is a potential 3 team deal involving Chychrun and the Flames that could work,
AZ
Mangiapane
Zary
2023 1st (Calgary)
Calgary
Bratt
Nemec
Brendan Smith
Devils
Chychrun
Kylington
2024 2nd (Calgary)
Devils get help on defense for next few years. Arizona gets picks and player they could retain on and get a return if they wished. Flames get scoring winger and likely Hanifin replacement.

Do you honestly expect to get better than Laf with our mid to late first? Its very unlikely
I wouldn't just throw away the pick but play the odds...if something like that was available you take it and run

A cheap interesting acquisition could be Dadonov. MTL would need to retain half and even then I wouldn't give up more than a 4th, but I don't think there's any market for him whatsoever so I assume the habs would add to their pick collection given the chance.
Why Dadonov? He played on a very successful line with Huberdeau. He seems to turn his game on when he's interested like tearing it up after the trade deadline with Vegas last year.
In this article, Huberdeau describes him as the x factor for that line. I think he could use one of those right about now.

So the Devils just need to give up the player who looks like he may be the best player in the 2022 draft plus a guy on pace for 82 points for those two dmen?

This is the oldest team in the league.
The head coach won’t play 23 year old Adam Ruzicka more than 12 minutes a night, and he’s a 0.66 PPG player.
He’s not playing an 18-26th overall pick any significant minutes in the next five years.
So take advantage of Huberdeau at $5.9 and Weegar at $3.25, and go get them the extra forward they’ve needed for six years. Go get Patrick Kane. If you can’t swing that, get JVR. But get one of them.
Draft picks are for losers. We can hoard them when the core inevitably collapses under the weight of age and bloated contracts.
Today, everyone’s in their prime. So let’s ####in get it.

That’s so bad for the Devils. Why would they gut a good team they’ve got? They’ll easily wait for L Hughes to arrive. They don’t need Chychrun one bit, especially at the expense of Nemec… Just a bad proposal.

Sutter will be gone in 2-3 years tops we don’t need to worry about him being around when the 2023 1st is ready to go

No to spending assets on rentals.
Yes to plugging Pelletier/Coronato/Zary into the top 9.
With how old and long the Kadri/Huberdeau contracts are going to last, we need to continue to pump young cheap blood in around them to compete.

Here’s a question:
If the Flames struggle again in the playoffs with Markstrom at helm, do we trade him to a team in dire need of a goalie? At some point Wolf definitely needs to be looked at with the numbers he’s putting up in the AHL.

Unless tree leaves and a new GM rolls in with some new perspective, I suspect the Marky Vladar tandem will roll on next season as well regardless of the seasons outcome.
Wolf is doing everything to prove he should be up but another year won't kill him either.
Would be ideal to shed that 6m off the books though.

To me Vladar and Wolf SHOULD be the goalies going forward.

This is why any trade Coronato ideas make me shake my head. He's ideally the kind of player you want in this lineup moving forward. Him, Zary, Pelletier, Poirier. They'll be essential. This team will need to lean heavily on its drafting and developing now. Spending those assets on rentals when you aren't a clear cut Cup contender (tongue twister) or veterans you can't afford anyway doesn't make a ton of sense.
This of course dependant on Coronato wanting to sign here and not pulling a Fox.
