We had an NHL '95 league in college, and we made so many trades during the season that it ran out of storage and the battery backup died. The game was unplayable.

I'm thinking we don't do much at the deadline. At least not enough to break the battery.

Plus Karlsson will be looking for that massive extension in a year so even if Ottawa eats half or more of Ryan's salary thats still close to or around $15M in salary in a few years time.

I would think there would still be a retention mechanism... even say for Karlsson's two years to make the short term doable... then stuck with the Ryan anchor long term.

That was lame.

It was way better in like NHL 2003 through 2008 when teams could decline trades but you could always still cheese a deal for a player that was rated 1-2 points higher than your guy.

Then you would make like 10 different trades, each one for just a slightly better player but in the end you would somehow turn Chris Clark into Joe Sakic.

Karlsson 6.5M and Ryan probably at (25% Retained) 5.45M. As far as an extension goes for Karlsson which most likely be 8M plus I don't know what they will do with that.

Lol Karlsson isn't signing in Edmonton for 8 million. He's gonna get 11m+ when he goes to free agency

If Smith is out long term. It wouldn't be the worst idea to poke around for another goalie.

I'd rather see Gillies in the AHL getting ice time over sitting on the bench.
