Hoping he only gets one more start this year.

He’ll pitch next Tuesday to open against the Yanks, and then if we can clinch a WC spot before final day we can rest him for the WC opener.

Which would have him available to potentially pitch game 1 or 2 of ALDS. Heaven forbid we get that far.

Well that explains a lot of the whole debacle Manoahs season has been.

Hopefully they get it all figured out and he can come back hungry and ready to be who he looked like he could be.

Honestly thought it was something much more difficult to fix...as in mentally lost.

This story has had so many swings to it I'm not sure what to believe. If his arm was so bad he needed injections, why are they putting him out there to get lit up. On the mental side, he could still have poor confidence even with his bum arm.

A bad year equals mentally lost now? He's 25, and he's had 2 really good seasons in the majors already.

And that would mean that SEA would have probably swept HOU as well. meaning HOU would have to go 7-2 in their other games.

The Jays definitely control their own destiny.
Since I posted this, SEA and TEX have each lost, and HOU has lost 2. So updating...

If the Jays go 5-5 the rest of the way:
HOU has to go 6-3 AND
SEA has to go 6-4 AND
TEX has to go 6-4

A total of 11 losses between the 3 of them. But they play each other 10 times. So there is only room for one more loss between the 3 of them (other than head to head). That's a combined 8-1, and even then, all 11 losses would have to be perfectly distributed.

In other words, 5-5 the rest of the way is almost a certainty for the playoffs. We know 6-4 is guaranteed, but 5-5 is now about a 99% lock.

It wasn't just "a bad year", he literally could not throw a pitch where he wanted/needed for the first 2 months....then gets sent down....and then gets shut down.

He walked more batters in 87 IP this season than he did in 196 last year.

His WAR is in the negative. His WHIP is 800 points higher than a year ago.

He was one of, if not the worst SP in baseball this year.

It comes down to something physical or something mental...it happens to pitchers.

Physical is much easier to fix usually...so thats good news.

He was inaccurate but it affected both teams. Just the bottom of the strike zone was really big.

I don't know - 92% is pretty terrible. I know it doesn't sound like much worse than 94% but it is - 1 in 12 wrong, instead of 1 in 16. I would also guess that the distance away frow the strike zone (the delta) was much higher than we typically see.

I thought that was the worst pitch-calling I have seen this year (except at least it was equally bad to both teams)

I think it was that some of the ones he misses were REALLY bad and so was more of egrecious misses that quantity of misses.

That one high pitch is a pretty major outlier...must have been giving his back a rest. Otherwise the strikes as balls at the top kind of make sense if his zone is lower.

Big opportunity tonight for the Jays with the other teams on off days, but it'll be tough having to face Cole.

I hope he comes back less actually hungry and decides to hit the gym.

We've been better at generating runs lately, so hopefully being down 3 early isn't insurmountable.

Normally it wouldn't be but the Jays are facing the "Likely" Cy Young pitcher Cole...and will probably face him again next week
