They should seriously DFA Wells. Or agree to eat 3/4 of his remaining what 100Million if some takes him in trade.

His poor defense bugs me more than his poor offense right now.

Every batter goes through 0-for-20 slumps or striking out 5-6 times in a row throughout a long season. Defense is never supposed to slump and he's missing routine catches lately. It just seems his head is somewhere else.

Well the Marlins beat up on Casey Janssen pretty good today. Again a case of not having that out pitch. He could get two strikes on them, but than he couldn't close the deal quickly. Eventually they got some pitches to hit, and hit them hard.

2 on, 1 out, Wells up.

What are the odds for a GIDP?

Yup, my thoughts (and every other Jays fan's thoughts) exactly.

edit: ha! hits the double-play ball but gets out of it with a bad throw.

Haha Wells gets a huge break.

To his defense he probably would've beat out the DP.

Why is Rolen not pinch-hitting here?

EDIT: No surprise. Why garbage like Millar is hitting 5th is beyond me.

Just a poorly managed game from Cito.

Have Overbay bunt if you want the runner on 3rd.

Wells should be DFAed.

Worst player in the majors this season.

Well, this season's just about over.

A team can only last for so long when you pay 1/5 of your salary on a guy who could easily be replaced by an average AAA outfielder.

Well Rios seems to like hitting 6th fine enough.

But yeah Wells has got to the point where I don't even think he could hit 300 in the Northern League. It's one thing to hate a guys salary, but at this point in time, it's not like people are ragging on a guy hitting 280, slugging close to 500 and on pace to hit 25-30 home runs and saying he should give more. He's hitting like a guy who should be benched, and not giving enough defensively.

I really don't understand Cito's line-up juggling.

Wells is far and away the worst hitter on the team...so they move him up in the order and give him more ABs?

Rios has struggled a bit this year, but nowhere near the level of Wells. That earns him the 6-hole.

I guess we have to live with it as Cito's basically said he's not shuffling it again anytime soon. What other MLB team has to live with a guy with a sub-.660 OPS batting 3rd?

That's the thing. Because of a 3-game series following a pretty bad stretch, the Jays are going to lock him in the 6-hole for months now. He was going to come around and hit better - it just happened to coincide with getting demoted so Wells could take his spot.

Cito's just showing his faith in Wells because he earned the contract and star status with years of good play. I think it takes more than a couple months of mediocre play to erase all that. Saying he's the worst player in the league is just silly, go look at some stats please. For the money maybe, but Andruw Jones was much worse last year on a similar contract. We're also not even half way through the year yet.......but I must admit as the resident Wells apologist even I'm beginning to wonder if he can turn it around.

I find it interesting that you say "Rios was sure to come around sometime". 2 weeks ago their numbers were almost identical, but Wells has gotten even worse (somehow). Why is it that Wells isn't "sure to come around"?
