I’m generally a lurker but have a legit question for those that may have watched Whitecloud. How good of a top-4 D is he, better/worse than Andersson? I anticipate with some of the stats that have been posted there’s a chance that he’s worse in generating offense for an inconsistently offensive team.
I don’t like that we’re this low standings wise but if we’re going to suck naturally might as well get our only ever top-3 pick for once while also hoping to have a flippable asset for more picks.
The rumours and other posts certainly had my hopes up but I’m comfortable with the return but irked it’s with Vegas… Maybe it’s a long con and Andersson is now a sleeper agent to tank the Knights this year. That way we get a higher pick with their 2026 1st Rounder.
IMO he's a stay-at-home physical defensive #4-5 D, not really comparable to Andersson

He is top 20 in the NHL in TOI/gp and in points.
You are suggesting there are at least 62 guys better than that......not likely.
RA is and has been a very very good player (sans last season) but his contract status limited the return. I think overall CC did ok for a rental which he is at this point.

If the Knights win the cup then Flames get the 28th 1st. They already own the 27 1st. If they finish bottom ten in 2027 then the 27 slides to 28 and the 28 slides to 29
So in this scenario, the 28 and 29 picks will have no condition attached, correct?
Just catching up and my initial thought was a modest win. 2 higher picks with the possibility of back to back 1st rounders. Whitecloud is a decent Dman that easily could be flipped for more draft capital if they choose to go that route. If they waited till the deadline the picks would still be from teams in their 20s.
It will be interesting to see if Ras actually goes to market after the run with Vegas. A couple high picks and a roster player is a pretty hefty price for a rental.
As much as it sucks that it was Vegas, it also makes it harder for the Oilers, so the is a mini win there. Could be a home run if Rasmus helps eliminate Edmonton.
So it's even worse then. A 29 year old bottom-pair D... and he's a right shot, so he's literally going to be used as a replacement for Andersson in the typical Flames' way of using unskilled guys higher up in the lineup than they should be.
Zero room created for a young guy like Parekh to move up.
I called it. A midling prospect, and a couple of midling draft picks (20-30th in the first and second round, amd not even for this year!) and a roster replacement for the outgoing asset that will "help us compete right now" for whatever it is Maloney thinks we're competing for.
Devils fan here... I found this trade interesting because our GM sucks and has pinned himself into a corner by giving out NTCs and NMCs like they're candy and we resent him because he can't make any moves right now as the deadline approaches, but I really thought you flame fans would like this deal because they're getting a 1st and a 2nd, and the second could potentially become a 1st.
At the risk of sounding ignorant and insulting your from a prayer, I feel like Andersson was an average second pair defenseman .
If I'm a Knights fan, on the one hand it's encouraging to see my general manager make moves and always go for a cup run, but at the same time I would be upset that we just gave up quite a lot of our future.
Agree? Disagree?
Ras is a top pairing defender. Dudes a competitor and a stud and very under-rated outside of Calgary. I'm sad he's gone and even sadder he's a Golden Knight cause now I have to hate him.
I believe the reason Flames fans are upset is mostly because it's the Golden Knights. This return is better than the Hanifin return and if it was another team with a similar return I don't think you see the outcry. But it's the Golden Knights and they get everything they want for pennies on the dollar. Basically the Dodgers of the NHL.
What I'm trying to say here is #### Vegas.

Drafted in 2022, went back to the BCHL for a season, and he is in his 3rd year of college. If he returns to the NCAA for one more season, can he become a UFA?
Calgary must sign Wiebe by August 15, 2027 if they wish to retain his rights.

If you really look at it, it's nearly the same as the Lindholm trade - but we got a 2nd (that could be a 1st), not a 3rd, a better NHL'er, and worse prospect (or a more unknown prospect).
...and who cares about whatever his nuts was that never reported to Calgary anyways, Joni Jurko or whatever his name was.
You can look at this deal as the equivelant to two 1st round picks, but they aren't very good 1st round picks would be the only criticism.
We were told all along the asking price was two 1st round picks, and that's what Conroy delivered. Not a homerun, but it's not terrible.
I’ve seen a few posts saying “Conroys hands were tied”. No, he put himself in this position when he didn’t trade Rasmus last trade deadline. This was an entirely predictable outcome and a let down from flames management.

I can't wait until we don't learn and wait to trade Coleman and Kadri next year as well.

He is not as good as Andersson. I compared him to Zadorov, I think that is pretty fair - Zadorov with less offense
That’s fair, thanks Enoch; Seems like enough to mitigate some overwhelming games for Wolf and the young guys short term, protecting their confidence.
Maybe it helps our young D improve some of their defensive habits and physicality (one can hope). Then if we’re lucky we get something in return at the TDL (if not sooner).
In my mind, I don’t like the idea of a tank, but also don’t like looking a gift horse in the mouth. Would rather take advantage of our standings rather than try to be competitive this year. A less offensive ‘Zadorov’ helps that cause.
He is a solid #3, which is great on its own. However, most teams in the league would have 2 dman better than him imo.
That's kinda what I was thinking. I could absolutely be undervaluing him, but someone else here just said he was the best D man on the market and I find that a little hard to believe. I mean, Quinn H just got moved a few weeks ago and I don't think he's anywhere near his level.
