But conisdering how easy it would be to do with the current empty canvas we have now, and the station going to be underground anyway - it would seem looney to not build an underground tunnel the 1 block.
That'll probably never happen. Why funnel everyone past potential businesses. They'll want everyone walking at street level to the train station.

Green Line station on 11th Avenue. The idea is you walk two blocks past businesses to the arena.

Also to add - the idea of an underground concourse between the Green Line and the arena was considered, but ultimately decided against. Obviously the cheaper option as well.

Went to TSN to see if they had any commentary or thoughts on the arena design release or the breaking ground ceremony. Not even a mention on the entire website but fortunately they interview Corey Perry on the golf course.

Trying to tie the end of the rebuild to the opening date of the arena is insane to me, yet that is what Wes Gilberton's article is suggesting, (https://calgaryherald.com/sports/hoc...ia-place-opens ) and fans have been floating this idea too for a while now. Suggesting that 2027-2028 date is the start of contention, tying Cale Makar hitting UFA into it in a whole delusional vision. You can't set a date like this for the end of the rebuild.
I hope ownership isn't thinking this, enforcing this strategy on hockey ops.
The Hanifin pick is made in 2026!

Does anyone know what will go in the area where the Saddledome is once it's demolished?
No idea but I hope the Stampede board uses it to put a proper outdoor concert venue there. This year was utterly insane and the Stampede is turning to a quasi musical festival in its own right.

3 years or not, with this now official, the Flames can start using it to attract free agents. The light can now be seen at the end of this tunnel, probably 15+ years later than it shouldve been, or could've been, and closer to 20 when it gets built. But, onward and upward and Conroy can sell the agents and players on getting onboard as part of this team in advance of the move and the exciting times ahead with a renewed sense of optimism that comes with the renewed excitement in a shiny new city centerpiece.
Like the Saddledome was, this will be at the top of the best building and facilities in the league for the first 5-10 years. Add that to the overwhelmingly positive, and legit positive the Flames organization gets from players and explayers in how well they take care of their families, and this is another tool in the tool chest to get a player to come here and be part of the excitement and good vibes that only a new fresh beginning and renewed community excitement, can bring.

If we do what we all hope and pick 1st in 25 and 26 or get star players we are going to have to start trying to field a good team. Maybe not contender but time will start ticking you need to take advantage of the age curve and ELC.
