Probably good for competitive balance he can't putt. He isn't just the best player tee-to-green, he is pretty much twice as good as anyone else. If he could putt like Homa he might have threatened Tiger's best years.

And just like that the lead that Scheffler built based on a year’s worth of work is totally gone.
I don’t have any suggested changes to the format and I don’t hate the way they do it but it’s not really like they are playing for a season championship. It’s more like a single big money tournament.
It’s crazy how bunched that leaderboard is right now when you consider the hottest players were given a head start.

Scheffler has no luck. Knocks it stuff and then the putt does almost a 180 degree lip out.

He missed out on a big pay cheque this week because of his putting. Last in putting in the field.

Weird they kept the crowd hundreds of feet back along the fairway this season. Normally they let then walk up to the green.

Last two Sundays Hovland shoots 61 and 63. Guess that's pretty good.

Yep the way the format is set up, Hovland really deserved it. More than say Morikawa would have if he had played better on the weekend.

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka was among U.S. team captain Zach Johnson's six captain's picks announced Tuesday.
Koepka left the PGA Tour for the Saudi Arabian-financed LIV Golf League in June 2022. He won his third PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, in May.
Johnson's other captain's picks were Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Sam Burns.

Not sure how he can justify Thomas being on that squad. And Im a big JT fan.

He can justify it by pointing to Thomas record in Ryder/Presidents Cup matches. Same reason guys like Sergio and Poulter would keep making it despite not playing all that well before a Ryder Cup. And they can protect Thomas by not playing him in alternate shot, where he'd probably be a major negative. In best ball he can stink it up and it doesn't matter as much.

Feel bad for the guys playing very well this year and not making it. definitely a lot of popular name picks and past performance picks.
However, the logic may make sense in the format.

I think on the road they have to go with experience.

I think taking Burns might be worse, arguably the only reason he's there is because he's buddies with Scottie. At least Thomas has a strong track record in team events, Burns was terrible at the Presidents Cup last year, his only team event.

No other alternatives really. Keegan Bradley? That might tank ratings.
Finau again? Zaltoris? Then there are the rest of the LIV guys.

I'm guessing Zach Johnson doesn't care too much about NBC's ratings lol. Otherwise he would have picked a few more LIV guys, Phil especially, just for the drama. Can you imagine a Phil-Rory singles match?

People have lamented the US Team for not being as cohesive a 'team' as the Euros. Captain Zack consciously builds a team and gets accused of making it a buddies trip.
