I don't think he's signing a contract for less than $7M AAV.

Look at the comps in this article, I'd say the Flames are better off with Weegar than any of those dmen.

I don't know anything about Russ Hubbard's credibility but thought some here may know.

6 years at 6.75 for Weegar is a done deal he claims.

He has 16 followers. That should answer all you need to know about his credibility,

I don't get why someone would create a twitter account just to post fake NHL rumors.

Is it really that exciting creating a buzz for about 5 minutes, which is about as long as it takes for folks to sniff you out as a fraud and move on?

Just seems like a gigantic, idiotic waste of time.

What's happening there, is this now a legit rumour of Weegar signing?

I deciphered the URL from the HTML soup USflamesfan accidentally posted, and took a look at the tweet. Basically seems to be a PONTI blowing smoke because he heard the two sides were talking.

Just waiting on some Ryan Leslie eyeballs on Twitter before I really get intrigued.

That's a weird tweet, as the tweet itself claims that they are closing in on a deal. While his reply to someone a couple posts down says that he heard they have sat down for the first time and that it's a good sign. Those are two vastly different things.

Weegar is going to cost a decent amount. Spurgeon is the best comparison, taking away the fact he's the Wild team captain. If looking at a 6-7 year term, the cap hit starts with a 7. To get it to start with a 6, it's 8 years and that number is probably at or above 6.5.

Weegar holds the cards here, even with a slight drop off he will have a big market at UFA.

I think Spurgeon is a decent comparison, but he had 4-5 years of really good production, versus 2 for Weegar. I think that might make some difference.

Also, are we sure the Spurgeon contract is a good one? Not sure how great a value that one is.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

So, looking at the comparables the average cap hit percentage of the 4 of them comes out to being 8.4025%, which would be approximately a 6,932,062.5 million dollar cap hit (based on the 2022-23 salary cap). Based on this, I'm guessing the 7 million dollar estimates are close.
