Chiasson/Ferland are all interchangeable.

Gross.
Take away Hathaway and Kulak / add Bollig and Grossman

Good call I put Bollig in on the 4th line. Chiasson can sit or play in Ferlands spot and have Ferland move down to the 4th line if he plays like he did last season.

I mean, it doesn't really matter.

That's the problem, too much dead weight at the bottom of our lineup. Ideally I would like to see:

Johnny Hockey - Monahan - Shinkaruk
Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer
Ferland - Backlund - Frolik
Bouma - Stajan - Hamilton
Hathaway

Gio - Brodie
Wideman - Hamilton
Kulak - Jokipakka
Engelland

It will be nice in a couple of years when we can part ways with Bollig/Stajan/Wideman/Engelland/etc. to make way for some of our young guys

Sign Nakladal as well and pick up a #2LD at the deadline with whatever space the Flames have left and I wouldn't be surprised if that roster made the conference finals.

Switch Ferland with Bouma and this team's winning the cup.

I just don't see Chiasson on the top line at all. He has been completely invisible. He tries I guess. I'm not a fan of that pickup so far.

What did you expect? That the Sens would hand over gold for Patrick Sieloff?

Chiasson is a 4th line/13th forward, don't know why this comes as a surprise to anyone. This year's version of Setoguchi.

Progression isn't linear.

He was, as you say, playing at a 13th forward level with Ottawa. But prior to that, he was a good player with Dallas.

Because he was part of the comp for Spezza, the pressure on him was huge in Ottawa, and they needed to cut bait.

But for the Flames, taking a chance that he might regain the form he showed in Dallas was a smart play and well worth the minimal cost.

If he doesn't, oh well.

But who knows - playing with Gaudreau and Monahan for a while just might be what the doctor ordered to get his confidence back and get back on track.

This scenario may not be likely or probable, but it is certainly a possibility.

The league is full of guys who were basically 3rd/4th liners, but who, at one point along the way, got a chance to play with great players, and managed to take advantage of that and post some solid numbers for a year or two.

Off the top of my head, there is Carter in Van, Brown in Pitt, was it Tootoo that played with Thornton in SJ?

Plenty more examples

I'm doubting Johnny will be there. Sad.

Craig Conroy being St Louis' fourth line center and getting a chance with Iginla sparked him for a good 4 years is the first one that comes to my mind.

My fave Treliving line on Johnny: “I think the coach is OK if he hasn’t had a lot of practices. I think he’ll find a spot for him.” #Flames

Now that Johnny is in the fold...

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer
Bouma- Backlund - Frolik
Stajan- Hamilton - Chiasson
Bollig

Giordano - Wideman
Brodie - Engelland
Jokipakka - Hamilton
Kulak, Grossman

Elliott
Johnson

I think Vey is sent to the AHL, even though I want Bollig to be, and unfortunately I'm guessing Grossman is signed. I think we start with 13 F, 8 D, and 2 G, but will loose a D at some point into the season. I'm hoping for a waiver pick-up tomorrow, but I doubt anything of value will get past the scrubs in last year's basement, and so we will be stuck with what we currently have for plugs.
