The man rumoured to be the next GM Joe Nieuwendyk went to Cornell I believe.

Mind blown. I don't have time to read 40 pages but is Burke 100% not going to be the GM? I was hoping he would be.

It's not trying to win games now, it's learning how to win games period.

So have we confirmed that Burke was at Bill Brasky's wake last night?

I believe in the Jays.

If Burke was looking to move Baertschi then I doubt he would be publicly announcing the flaws in his game.

This move has nothing to do with the Flames' current record this season or any sort of "win now" mantra coming from ownership. I think Feaster has been on the block since we changed direction and began the rebuild. I don't think the organization has felt that he was the man to lead this process and ownership is doing their due-diligence by bringing in a guy like Burke to evaluate the Flames' management. I get the impression that they're going about this in a very thorough manner.
As an aside, the goal is always to win. You want to see improvements with your team but that doesn't mean that you expect to be a contender nor does it mean selling the farm for ageing vets. Accepting mediocrity/complacency is how you turn your team into the Oilers. We need to instill good habits in our young players and develop a positive, winning culture in our locker room. Getting on top of issues like maintaining leads in the third are something you work on immediately not five years from now when all your young star players are at the tail end of their ELCs.
In regards to Baerschi, I don't think (or hope) he's on the trading block. If anything I would expect him to be treated similarly to Kadri in Toronto. Perhaps he'll be sent down to the Heat to work on his game and improve his play if the Flames aren't happy with his development.

you can have small players...you are never going to win, especially in this division with a majority of small players in your top six.
remember when we were all raving about how great Boston is and how that is a team we would like the Flames to be like

Towes, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Tim Thomas, Paul Stastny, Duncan Keith, Dany Heatley, Ryan Kesler, Brian Gionta, St. Louis, Matt Carle, Phil Kessel, Brooks Orpik, Jack Johnson, Dan Boyle, Kevin Bieksa, Thomas Vanek, Drew Stafford, Ryan Suter, Erik Cole, Joe Pavelski, Christ Kunitz, David Backes, Mike Camalleri, Patrick Sharp, Schultz, JVR, Jimmy Howard, RJ Umberger, Paul Martin, Brian Rolson, Andy McDonald, TJ Oshie, Justin Abdelkader, Leopold, Glencross, Penner, Bredan Morrison, and others all took the NCAA route.
Saying that NCAA is not a good place to find players is a pretty ridiculous argument.

after the 60 day review Burke realized that Feaster doesn't have a clue what he is doing...consider that Feaster almost lost a sixth overall pick for nothing and was saved by another GM yet was still allowed to make the biggest trade in franchise history a couple months later
