At the end of the day, the flames are early into this rebuild, and have lots of holes including a top pairing defenseman, and a 2nd top 2 center man. As a result, any of Ekblad, Reinhart or Bennet would be fantastic choices.
I personally like Bennet the most. I like his compete level, his skating ability, his release, and the fact that he is playing in the OHL which seems to he the most skilled chl league right now.
That said, Reinhart sounds like a fantastic player too. And so does Ekblad.
Could you imagine a top 4 like:
McDavid
Monahan
Reinhart\Bennet
Backlund
That would be the best lineup of 2-way centers in the league.

People also need to remember we have Arnold in the system. Even now, we don't know what the Flames have in the kid. Yeah he's been playing well with Johnny, and one could argue that his stats are being padded, but Arnold is a bonafide playmaker and he's certainly got the bigger frame that most look for in a center.
He very well could cap out as a Getzlaf or a Kopitar type player (minus the 3-4 inch height). Most speculate he's a perfect 3C, but for all we know, he may flourish in his development once he turns pro and eventually hit that top 6 ceiling.
Not necessarily. Regehr was a gentle giant til Sutter got hold of him.
Myth. Regehr has 120 and 130 PIMs in his last season of Junior. He was no timid flower. Also his NHL PIMs are pretty consistent throughout his whole career, you may thought he got meaner, but he was exactly the same.

I'm willing to hold my breath for the latter.
crazy talk. Be happy if he makes the NHL... he's not going to be that type of player.

Not saying he played soft. But his first few years in the NHL he was steady but not aggressive, maybe a little starstruck. Sutter turned up his intensity and made him into the competitor he became.
Numbers don't tell the whole story. I distinctly remember him not being the nasty defender his first couple years that he is now. And I say that from watching him play, not his stats.

He's closer in size to Gilmour than Messier. Not sure I believe the 6'025" readings I've been seeing.
And if Gilmour was listed taller than 5'10 he must have been wearing Gene Simmons boots at the time. Bennett is bigger now and will be far bigger when he fills out.
The only reason I'm okay with the Oilers being below us is I feel strongly that they take Ekblad.
I want Reinhart/Bennett
Would love nothing more then to leap frog them by winning the draft lotto and making them overpay to swap positions so they can get ekblad and we still get the pick of forwards.
