I just put my episode speculations in spoilers to keep the post size smaller.
Also, if you read the forums on Tapatalk, it gives a preview of the first line of the last post in the thread (so, right now it shows "Joffrey is pois...") from YYC's post. As a courtesy, I try to keep any actual spoilers at least two sentences into the post.

Wrong thread. But that college humour skit was great.

So book readers, thoughts on the premiere of season four last night?
I can't remember if they had those cannibal wildlings in the books, I don't think so.
Another thing I can't remember, did Arya kill that Lannister dude that took Needle in the book?
I really need to start a re-read.
And I'm just not feeling the new actor playing Daario, in the books he is the playboy warrior to the extreme on the passion side. I'm just not getting that vibe from the new guy.
Other than that a solid start to the season and the remainder of book 3. Looks like they are going to use Sir Dontos just like in the book with Sansa, kind of neat to get the callback to his character from two seasons ago.

I don't think so. That's what makes Skagos such a 'spooky' place. I don't remember the Thenns being cannibals, pretty sure they weren't although they were unique.

It was the Tickler she killed while asking him "Is there gold hidden in the village?" Or something to that effect. The same way he questioned people when he 'tickled' them.

I'm kind of torn on the Daario re-casting. Probably would have preferred if they just gave the original guy a beard and haggard hair cut I feel Daario's appearance is important so I think they did a good thing (on an appearance level) even though they are skipping the blue hair. My girlfriend was bummed though, lol.
I noticed they changed Qyburn's name to...Kaymen or Kymen or Qymen or something? Maybe they mentioned his name in the 3rd season but I don't recall.
The cannibal and physical appearance (weird decorative scars) of the Thenn definitely made me question my reading skills but it's not in the books. Changes like that always throw me off a little, but I don't mind them. The Thenn's are the most cultured of the wildlings and according to Ice and Fire wiki:
"The Thenns are more well-armed and armored than most free folk, with bronze helms, axes, short stabbing spears with leaf-shaped heads, shirts sewn with bronze discs, and plain unadorned shields of black boiled leather with bronze rims and bosses."
Good to see Dontos give Sansa the amethyst hairnet... Definitely not as many meetings in the show as they had in the book but that's understandable based on time restrictions.
Looking forward to more Martell content; Oberyn, Sand Snakes, Arianne, etc. Maybe we'll see Doran at some point in the series. Would be kind of cool.
According to a few posters in the Game of Thrones thread they didn't have a choice about the recasting, the guy left on his own for other projects.

Also, when do you all think the Littlefinger reveal will be - will that be in the last episode? I'm incredibly excited for that scene, that was one of my favourite parts of the books.
Interesting. I rewound it three times and I swear it's different. It's the scene with Cersei, Jaime and him. Looks like I'll have to recheck again this evening, lol
And yeah, I figured it was a contract thing with Daario...just curious why they decided to drastically change the characters physical appearance for this season.

It'll be much sooner than that. Perhaps as early as next episode. Sansa boards the boat right after the Purple Wedding which looks like it will be the next episode.
He kills Dontos there and explains the plot behind J's death.
The "Mockingbird" episode will likely be the John Arryn reveal and subsequent killing at the Eyrie.

Ah, the Mockingbird episode would make sense. I loved that scene in the books.
From GRRM's "not a blog", someone asked about the change to the Thenns:
Quote:
re Thenns:
Well, fwiw, there are cannibals among the wildlings, that is stated several times in the books. But no, it's not the Thenns, and none of the cannibal wildlings have significant presence in the book. David and Dan basically just combined two wildling sub-groups, the Thenns and the ice river clans.

Just to add....
It's rumoured that the inhabitants of Skagos (where Davos and Rickon are thought to be) are cannibals.
Polliver stole the sword in the book, and it was the Hound that killed him in the inn. Arya killed the other two.
Also,
Spoiler!
Anyone else notice that the death scene in yesterday's premiere (at least the words) was like the killing of Raff in the Mercy preview chapter>

Good catch, I wonder if this is GRRM working with the show to start injecting character stuff earlier into the series in case they surpass him and the books.
