Question: I just picked up the game yesterday, how do I go about getting all of the updates?

Edit the prospect's overall and potential (especially potential...no more Nugent-Hopkins being a 99 overall eventually) until they're semi-realistic.

For the 360, it should have a notice (when you're logged into Live) in the corner saying that Tuners or Roster Updates are available and to press Y to start the download.

All I know is now that I've gotten my BAP slapshot power and accuracy up to 99, I'm not only scoring massive amounts of goals, but I'm litterally killing people.
Hello Mr Bieksa KACHOW . . . out for 6 months with a busted leg
Hey Mrs Sedin Zingwhammy . . . . out for 4 weeks with a busted ankle
Heads up Tim Thomas . . . . CRANBERRY . . . out 2 weeks witha concussion
I really respect you Mr Iginla . . . . . . BLAMMO out for 2 weeks with a torn groin.

My BAP got drafted by Toronto 1st overall, and holy crap the difference between the WHL and the NHL is huge. I keep getting killed all over the ice by big D-men and I was one of the fastest players in the WHL, and I'm losing races everywhere. I'ma 73, and I feel like I'm perpetually the worst player on the ice.

You're playing for Toronto. That's the problem.
EDIT - On a more serious note, it's probably because you're more used to the lack of aggresiveness by the WHL D. As a power forward in the WHL, I'm able to literally stand in front of D for half the length of the offensive end before they realize they need to poke check the puck from my stick.

There is a massive difference between the NHL and the WHL. The skaters are a lot faster, their offensive and defensive awareness levels are higher, their agression levels are through the roof.
I completely sucked in my training camp spending most of my time face down on the ice bleeding and got sent back to the hitmen.
I was marginally better in my second training camp, but my coach told me that I'd better learn to play ball or I'd be back riding the buses, then he made me take his massively overweight mother on a date. That ocach Fotze was a real ball buster.
Anyways for the first while, I had to really simplify my game until I got my skating stats to a reasonable level. Thats right, I made sure that I simply got every player a danish before game time, and would load the dishwasher with player cups.
I also ended up playing way more dump and chase.
Once you get used to the speed of the players its nice. One thing that they've really improved is that they've made the defense way more unpredictable. In previous versions you could go up the boards, stop and either cut to the net or fire a pass into the middel, or with my pathetic passing stats, row 22.
Now the defenseman might let you come up the boards, or they'll angle you into the boards and secretly stab you with a shiv. Or they'll just step into you right at the blue line if they have help.
Its a way better game then last years.

It only works for a year or two (as that's all you can see in the current rosters), but under "Edit Player", you should be able to edit their stats. At the top is the potential.

Captain, I have more fun reading your posts about your BAP than actually playing mine! The passing is huge, my passing was ~60 and Joe Colborne was streaking for a breakaway so i tried to feed it to him. Nope, puck ended up on their dman's stick at the point and he walked in and sniped it over Reimer's shoulder. I felt like I let my team down.
I'm determined not to get sent back to Kelowna though, nothing was more miserable than playing for that team. Brown couldn't save anything and even though I lead the league in scoring by ~20 goals and ~15 points, I was benched for the last 5 minutes of every game of the playoffs where we promptly lost in 7 games to the 8th ranked Prince George Cougars. I wish you could demand a trade in this game.

So I avoid a minefield of horrible teams to join (Toronto, Edmonton)...and get drafted by Winnipeg.
Ah well. At least I can force myself out in 3 years, right?

Lucky you, in mine the bottom 5 teams were Toronto, Colorado, Ottawa, Edmonton and Phoenix. I was hoping to go to Colorado or Phoenix, but I wasn't so lucky

Has anyone noticed that Sven Baertschi's face has been added to the game? Looks just like him.

His potential must be awful. I put him on the first line and he scored 64 goals and around 120 points and 45 points in the playoffs and his stats only went up by 2.

I notice the game is on sale for $50 at most retailers now. Is it worth buying at that discount, or does anyone think it is likely to drop further?
I think NHL 11 got as low as $40 last year, but I can't remember what time of year that was.

Only if you enjoy Be a Pro...nothing else really has changed, the Legends are pretty bad selection (I added about 12 legends which were much better than their crop), and Be a GM's AI is still dumb as bricks (Bouwmeester turns into Weber/Keith/Doughty pretty easily).

Be A GM is all I play. I'll probably skip it, even at that price.
