NHL players are given media training, so they know to keep things tight and not let too much information. He's Swedish, English may be his second language but Swedes all speak English at an extremely high level and are taught the Queens English in school like everybody in Europe, their vocabulary and their way with words are vastly superior then the American English we speak.
NHL players are taught to be team players. They give praise to teammates, coaches, opponents, the organization. Hence why every player is always "so excited" to leave a cup contender and join bottom feeding organizations.
This was a direct shot at management/ownership/organization. This isn't a news reporting issue or him being upset at people getting traded, this is the NHL. It's media and trades.
Historically the Flames have been a poorly run organization from the top down that leads to results that are WAY below average. Any of us here on CP could be in management/executive positions and miss the playoffs regularly like the pro's do.
When a mild mannered Swede goalie, a player who plays a position that doesn't scream being vocal says something, it means something behind the scene is happening that pissed him off. End of story

Is Markstrom mild mannered though? I've always seen him as pretty intense and kind of a hot head.
Edit:
I agree with the points about the media training and the way players handle themselves 99% of the time. I just think Markstrom was caught out of sorts by the whole thing and his feelings got the better of him.

So we should hang on every word that comes out of his mouth as being considered, weighed, and insightful?
Seems a lot to ask of him, no?

Maybe he just really REALLY likes Calgary and wants to make it his offseason home.

Maybe he's tired of New Jersey traffic and wants to commute by air to save time.

Normally I don't get hung up on every detail about what a player, coach or manager says as it's not important. I do think this scenario is more eye opening than other tidbits though. Marky is playing lights out now and the return on him could be very high. This has the markings on getting a lot of assets for a player that won't be here much longer.
His comments have caused a little bit of a talking point without a doubt, but he hasn't clarified them either, or walked them back. He probably is just pissed off about something that should have been handled differently or better.
Historically the Flames have not been a very well managed or performing club as evident by the complete lack of winning.

Media training? I doubt it's very in depth. They probably sit in a room at the beginning of the year and the PR person reminds them about social media, etc.

Anyone else remember the "Kovalchuk hired a realtor in Calgary" rumor on CP when he was about to become a UFA. Good times.

NRD (50k followers has made some correct predictions in the past) states the Devils are not in on Ulmark and are all in on Markstrom

Even if you ignore the actual words, his tone and delivery show emotion that wouldn't be there if he wasn't actually upset. He specially stated he wasn't happy and that it could have been handled ALOT differently. If nothing happened I believe he would be much more casual about the whole thing.
And now we hear rumors the Devils don't even need retention. So why isn't the deal getting done if that's the case? Maybe the Flames feel bad going back to Markstrom now after he was clearly upset about whatever did happen.
