I never went into the Black Lung, it stank.

I think before my time you could go up and down, but by the mid-90's the Black Lung was just a separate, smoking only room. I'm pretty sure you could rent it from one of the clubs for events(and have booze) but it was so disgusting that rarely happened. It did have a patio there, which I remember using for the few events I went to at it. Those couches are probably being treated at a biohazard depot somewhere, destined for centuries of decontamination.

I think I finally moved in in '96 or '97
It has changed a tonne, well except for Could be Beef. My daughter, 2nd year BSc, was not happy to have to pose in front of it so I could send a photo to her uncles.

Kobe Beef was always the best mall japanese stir fry around.
Remember when the chef guy had to give the extra sauce, not the self serve it became (is it still there?)
In the most stereotypical Japanese accent until its problematic....like Hatori Hanso from Kill Bill,
"Sauce!!!??" - chef guy
"One" - me
"THANKYOUUUUUUUU!" as he ladles it on.

Yeah, old Den ruled. $5 pitchers and that waitress in the short black miniskirt always scampering around.

That pizza that was good but seemed to make people puke more than should be expected. My buddy met his future wife there that was waitressing because I was buying a stolen car stereo from her brother.

That pizza was not good. It had salsa as the "sauce". But it was often the only option at that point.

For some reason I liked it, but it didn't like me.
We tended to be Max's people more than the den. Was closer to engineering. and if you are gonna be in the bar 5 days a week, may as well have it light and not depressing. The pita pizzas were good, maybe.
Is Max's still open?

Anybody do an Ironman at the den, go when it opened and stay until it closed. I did it a few times. Pretty wobbly by closing time

Nope Max's is closed, long gone.
I remember being there for a concert once, The Killjoy's I think.
My buddy bought the whole beer tub with a stolen credit card and sat in it all night giving out free beer to people.

We used to do DJ nights at Max's, I just can't remember the night of the week. It was called "Higher Learning" for awhile.

My wife was a waitress at Max's for a couple years. She said the engineering kids were cheap af, but everyone else was cool.
I have a great video of BSD from around '98. I put a NUTV sticker on my handicam along with a plug-in mic and my friends and I dropped shrooms and walked around interviewing people and busting ahead of all the lines. It was sweet. I still have the video, but can't show it and out like 10 dudes. It's a great little snapshot in time, though, and there is some good Max's footage.
