It does get “bash ups on Barlow” or “Barlow breakdowns” so there is that.

Flyers - I think they would maybe go to $9.5 / $10M but not sure they could afford more than that.
Really NJ is the only team that can offer money and location.
Flyers he might be willing to take less if that is truly where his heart is...but $10-$16M is a lot of money to leave on the table.

That one is weird. I know that may be where his heart is, but that team is a tire fire at the moment and likely wont be competitive until Gaudreau is in the twilight of his career while still making big money.
Typically players dont want to be part of a rebuild at the tail-end of their careers, they want to be competing. Partly because losing sucks, but also because they want Cups and trophies and they dont really want to end their careers on losing notes.
And they even more rarely leave money on the table in order to do it.

9.5 would be a "steal"
11 an "overpay"
It's 1.5M...one easily replaceable NHLer just do it. Even if it's bad in 5 years eat half and make a deadline deal. A million times better than losing him for nothing.

Right, because actually playing and winning hockey games is never a consideration. Having Gaudreau on the roster for his career year had zero value to the team.

I don't think you need to believe the leak but just looking at their cap situation - they can't offer that much without clearing cap. They've got to sign Dobson who will get a decent amount and Romanov who they just acquired.
They've only got $11m in cap space before those guys. They could move Varlamov or someone but they've made no indication they are going that way.

Philly is always weird though - they do have some decent pieces if Hart can find his game.
They had a good season in 19-20 and aren't too far removed from that.
Couturier, Konecny, Farabee, Hayes, Provorov, Sanheim aren't bad and are still good players. Guys like Frost, York, Brink, Gauthier, Tippett, Foerster have potential.
I think with a healthy roster, and Gaudreau added that they could be a playoff team.
But yeah not likely a top end contender.

Exactly, when the Flames are paying over $10M for Coleman and Lucic, they shouldn't be fussing over a $1M difference in salary for one of their stars.

Lucic just has to go. I like him but that cap hit us just huge

Exactly. Isn't that how much we were paying for Michael Stone's buyout? I'm sorry, but +/- $1.5M for a franchise player is not going to make or break an $80M+ salary structure.

Double that, because Tkachuk is very likely going to demand the same deal.
You know what they say: A million here, a million there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

I'm using my Johnny Jersey like Marty's Polaroid photo from 'Back To The Future 3.'
As I see the Jersey fade somewhat hope fades along with it, but as long as its in full colour then hope springs eternal!

We will cross that bridge when we get there. I'm sorry, but if $1.5M is what caused Johnny to walk, that will just be asinine.

Tkachuk would be who we would look to deal to help bring some structure back to the cap, it would be tough to trade a player like him but you could get some good, young, cost controlled pieces back. Johnny proved he was the bigger piece to build around and the Flames should have no problem paying him an 8x11 if that’s what it takes.
