Canada has omnibus bills as well. Stephen Harper loved them.
Canada has certainly copied the US's use of Omnibus bills. Stephen Harper was one of the first PM's to regularly use them, he certainly hasn't been the last:
In terms of why they are used, its generally to bury policies that would otherwise be controversial to try to pass on their own.
Is the opposition really going to bring down the government on the budget because of "x"? Worse yet, the governing party can say that the opposition is holding up valuable bills (like Covid relief?) while leaving out the fact that some distasteful policies are tacked on the end.
Governing parties love them, special interests love them.
Trump needs to skip ahead to the logical conclusion of all of this and force them to rename the Republican Party to the Trump Party. Never seen a bigger group of cowards, they know their political career is over if they speak out, so they'll go down as history's bitch boys instead.

I would bet most of those 140 are true Trump believers though.
Nah, if being in the Trump cult tomorrow meant they'd be guaranteed to be primaried out then they'd be lock step GOPers again in record time. A lot of them have on the record quotes being against Trump or for a lock step GOPer in the 2016 primary. These people are basically nihilists, they believe in nothing except power and will retain it by doing anything.

If they genuinely believe there was election fraud then their action is patriotism and not sedition.
The crazy thing is that if the Republicans won the house I don’t believe there would be anything to stop them from selecting the president.
This means that when the Dems lose the house in 2022 the next election could have a fixed result. They have a crazy system
It would almost be the Canadian system then
I think it's the newly formed congress that votes, so 2022 wouldn't matter. Getting 140 republican reps and 1 senator is still a far way from the votes they'd need in both chambers.

I'd be curious to see the breakdown. I'm familiar with more Senators who are quick to change their colors, but in my state, the Republican house reps left are all hard core Trumpers. All the deep red districts have been putting in Tea Partiers and Trumpers for a while. The establishment GOP reps have been retiring or getting primaried out.
^^But you're assuming things return to somewhat normal instead of cranking up the crazy train to 1000 MPH. I can't see these people calming down on January 20th at 12:01pm. It's nice that Trump will be gone, but the lunatics who propped him up don't go away as easily.

If they, after all the nonsense before and now, genuinely believe there was election fraud to the level that would overturn the election results then they are incompetent, delusional morons.

COVID relief currently includes a tax break for corporate meal expenses. We're giving corporations a break on their taxes for spending exorbitant amounts on expensive meals and drinks. Currently there are tax breaks for yacht owners. There are billions of dollars in tax revenue lost every single year because the IRS is horrendously underfunded, which means they don't have the resources to audit the wealthy who aren't properly paying their taxes.
But we're gonna split hairs over the idea that maybe some people who make <75k a year might possibly spend their big $2k on something that isn't rent/food. God forbid.
Two separate issues. One does not justify the other. Two wrongs don't make a right. Senate Republicans led by Grinch McPoisonPill are the reason for the things you mentioned in your post, and the reason why $2k cheques are being blocked right now. He's a complete POS.
That said, I'd agree that sending out the $2k cheques this time (due to how dire the situation currently is) is the correct thing to do. For any stimulus bill thereafter, a more sophisticated approach should be used.
Bunch of pathetic cowards, every single one of 'em. Their stupid, seditious bulls*** won't change a thing of course, and Biden will still be Prez. But the act of doing this could be very damaging to U.S. democracy going forward. It's just so sad witnessing how far that country has fallen in just 4 years.

Another flaw of democracy.
The more time goes on, I think the benevolent dictator is the way to go. I mean we kinda are there anyway so why not make it official?

Who cares? It’s over.
People...... the US what it once was is dead. How have not more people realized this?
Please tell me you didn’t think “oh Democrats now America saved”??????!!!!
This country is in terminal decline. Also, so is ours. It’s just going to take a few years before people realize it. Ive posted this a few times. It’s insanely obvious.

It’s even more sad how predictable it was. Pretty much the biggest warnings about Trump “he doesn’t respect the institution”, “he doesn’t respect the vote or term limits”, “he’s a danger to democracy”. This stuff was all said before he was even elected. And it all played out, exactly how a political layman would have predicted.

Exactly?
California is on fire, half the country love Putin, riots in the streets, an unprecedented pandemic infecting and killing Americans at an insanely disproportionate rate to the rest of the world, economy tanking...
This is worse than anyone thought it would play out.
