Get a new sub.

Visions has the Polk Audio PSW108 (10") on for 87 bucks. Pretty damn good deal for a 100 watt 10" if you don't want to spend much dough.

It's actually wallpaper (7 strips... total 8'x10'). Got it as a Christmas present from my wife, but had to put it up myself. I nailed hardboard panels to the wall, avoiding studs, and then wallpapered the panels so that it would be easy to take down later with minimal effort and only some nailholes to fill.

Should be noted that while the price is appealing, the PSW108 is made for smaller rooms at lower volumes. Also not sure why it's listed as 100W, I believe it's only 50W.

Ok folks, I need to figure out if these two things are compatible.

I love my Sub, it's a brilliant high-end unit that performs at all levels. But it's old. I believe most subs today are a simple RCA sub jack connector. As you can see, mine doesn't have that.

So with my new receiver, how would I connect it? I believe I've always used the Low Level jacks, never bothered with the High Level speaker connectors.

Which jacks would I have to plug into on my new receiver?

Just take 1 RCA cable out from one of the sub-out's on your receiver, and put into either the low-level L or the R input on your sub (it looks like it accepts RCA fine), or if you're anal about it, get a 1xfemale to 2xmale splitter and plug it into both.

Modern receivers send out an LFE signal anyway so ignoring the high-level inputs is pretty standard.

You don't have to have both the L and the R filled, one or the other is fine.

All true.

However it's 50 watts RMS but 100 watts dynamic (averages 50 watts output but can scale over).

What would the reasoning be behind including both a right and left jack on the sub if you only need to use one of them?

They're there for people who do not have AVRs with dedicated subwoofer outputs, but instead simply have a 2 channel system, such as a stereo pre-amp or stereo receiver. In this case, in order to get both channels of the bass info from a stereo mix to the subwoofer, a R/L connection from the pre-amp's (or receiver's, if it has them) R/L analog pre-outs can be used.

Here's a bigger sub at a good price. Personally I just like something that thuds so I don't give recommendations.

I've been looking at these two sets to see if the added cost was justified. I happened to be beside a Sony store today so went in and luckily they had these side by side. Not to poo-poo your decision, but I definitely saw a significant difference between the two. The 900 had much deeper blacks that made the 850 feel a little washed out when directly compared. The 850 looks great on its own, but if you do see them side by side, I think there is a big enough of a difference for me to go for the 900.

the 900 is the best LED picture you can get though. comparing it to other tv's is difficult because its the benchmark.

Quick question. My wall mount, which supports 165lbs and Vesa: 800x400 only states that it will support a 63" television. Is there any reason that I can't buy an 80inch television that is Vesa 400x400 and mount it on that wall mount?

For reference it's this one:

There is no reason you can't use it, the determining factor on any mount is the weight and the mounting pattern, the screen size is only a guideline.

Have no experience with AV equipment but have an onkyo receiver hooked up to ceiling speakers and my Samsung LED TV that got done when I had my basement developed.
I have an AV unit with 2 columns where I could place speakers but do not want to drill any more holes in the wood.

I'd like to ask for recommendations if there are any wireless bookshelf speakers that decent... And the speakers themselves possibly battery powered (could use rechargables no power source in either column only the main area where receiver, Shaw cable, etc are placed. Is this idea to put wireless bookshelf speakers in these columns even an option?

Because I don't know where the sub will sound best, I'm future proofing the room and setting two sub jacks in the wall (one at front of room, one at rear). I have a cable to run along the wall under the TV into the front corner just fine, but for the jack in the rear corner, I need a 30' sub cable.

I went shopping today to find one, and could only find a 25' cable, and it was very thin and not shielded.

Monoprice has what looks to be a perfect option for me, anyone know of somewhere local in Calgary where I could find something similar?

The common way to run subwoofer cable for in wall installations is to use a coaxial cable, it is shielded and cheap. At both ends terminate with a coaxial to RCA adapter, available at the Source.

But don't buy it at the Source because 10$ is a ripoff. Monoprice sells them for 82 cents, and they're gold plated.
