I was joking - that was the Eichel return.

Those trade proposals are absolutely terrible, all we are getting back are middling prospects and a pick swap to move up 3 slots.

Any trade involving Hanifin is going to net us 1st back without us sending ours out unless its to move into the top 8.

The Athletic article was based on discussions with several other NHL correspondents. Which is more likely?

A) Hanifin is worth less than a lot of Flames fans think.

B) Several correspondents in different NHL cities all have a hate-on for the Flames. For reasons.

The offers seem a bit low, but I expect they’re closer to the actual return than a lot of fan proposals being bandied around.
Provorov has a 6.75 million dollar cap hit and is a significantly worse dman than 4.95 million dollar Hanifin. Hanifin scores in one year

The Kings also ate 2 million of salary to move Provorov. Walker is actually a serviceable dman, not quite eating salary. Played 70 regular season games last year for a playoff team.

As I have said you can read the site without being a member and it takes awhile to get approved.

But feel free to keep up the witch hunt.

In the last year:

Chrychun got a 1st and 2 2nds.
Hronek landed a 1st and a 2nd
Ekholm landed a 1st and a 4th plus Tyson Barrie
Rasmus Sandin landed a 1st round pick
Jake McCabe (and Lafferty) landed a 1st and a 2nd
Orlov (and Hathaway), landed a 1st, 2nd and 3rd plus Craig Smith
Garvrikov (plus Korpisolo) got a 1st and a 2nd

You can say whatever you want about Hanifin, but he slots somewhere among those guys (and you can hold salary on him if you need to)
This 100%. Flames fans in general might be overrating our guy, but top 4, borderline top 2 blue liners always have significant value.

Scorp's proposal is fine but I'd want the 2023 1st.

20th OV
2023 2nd (Toronto)
Evans or Firkus

Seattle has three 2nd's in this years draft. If we aren't getting their 2023 first we better be getting at least two of those 2's.

This is a very good list of trades to gauge what should be Hanifin’s return. The only thing that might be tougher for the flames is that I think all of those players were traded during the start of the season or at the trade deadline. I could be wrong about some of them though. During that time, the players have their highest values to teams and the 1st round picks have their lowest values.

The flames will be looking to trade Hanifin at the draft this year which is when picks are at their highest values and players are at their lowest value. It would not surprise me if Hanifin returns not much more than a first round pick if it is in the top 13-18 picks. If the flames managed to get a return of a 13th-18th overall pick + a former first rounder from one of the last 3 drafts in exchange for Hanifin, I think it would be a really good trade considering the circumstances.

Most of these guys had more than 1 year of term I believe.

That means most of those teams that acquired those guys didnt have the ability to sign them right after getting them, and able to offer that guy both 8 years and close to what they think will be max.

That is where the value in a guy like Hanifin exists IMO, particularly a 600 game vet who is just entering Dman prime age territory.
