Journalist are very butthurt because Sutter doesn't play nice with them.
His comments have no relation to how he actually interacts with the player. Give me a break on this humiliation narrative. The coach days before said he likes the player and thinks he got great potential, but you don't hear these journalist talking about that do we? Wouldn't generate controversy/viewers.

So now we are supposed to care about what the Toronto media Drama Queen's think? They see this as a way to drum up interest in the middle of January when not much else is happening. Does everyone have Sutter amnesia?

It's part of the job for a head coach to interact with the media. I get that Darryl doesn't enjoy it but I do wish he didn't go out of his way to be difficult to deal with as the media has a job to do and he's working in easily one of the the softest Canadian media markets so it's not like he has to deal with the stuff coaches deal with in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal. We have seen and heard enough to know that Darryl is a good guy in general away from the game so I don't understand why he has to be so prickly with media. I don't think it endures him to the fans and I don't think it's a great look for the team in general. You can just imagine what Coronato and other rookies are thinking about when the see the clips and the chatter about Sutter not wanting to play rookies.

I really wonder if it has to do with the quality of questions (some) reporters ask. He has often answered questions with “you guys should know that”. He seems like the guy who would like to have a hockey conversation, not give cliche answers.

Having said that they can't let their starter just go bone cold either, there has to be a plan.
So 100% Vladar? No ... doesn't make sense.
Go tandem until either Markstrom settles in, or clearly doesn't? That's how I'd go.
|
I agree with tandem. I would give Vladar the BJ’s (which Sutter has) and the Kraken this week. I would probably give Markstrom the hawks. But if Vladar keeps winning I would go with him after the break until proven otherwise.

Yeah especially when you have him chatting about a player openly and then Wills comes along.

This team is formed to win a championship. Anyone who requires a soft touch can march their velvet ass on out. Just everybody close your eyes and visualize gulutzan throwing a stick and wonder to yourself if you want velvet.

Yeah I'm tired of it too.
I'm not fist clinching - fire the coach - losing my mind angry about it, and I don't want the guy fired, but I'm tired of it too.
He only needs to adjust the top 5% of his reactions though. Nobody needs the guy to be a touchy feely saint with the media, just tone down the most obnoxious stuff.
And I still don't see much of a line to Coronato like many are making.

All head coaches have to deal with that though. It's not like this is an isolated incident. It was totally fair for medai to ask why Huberdeau went into the dressing room during a period and the " I think he had to take a ####" comment was dumb. Maybe it's frustration with the plight of the team but he's been more surly than normal this year and I don't think it's good for the team as fans deserve better than this and so does the local media just doing their jobs.

I am a huge fan of Sutter but I agree, this season his sarcastic/snarky remarks have been over the top. Seems like almost every interview and answer he gives has that tone.
I don't think the Pelletier comment itself was a big deal, but I think it was a breaking point for the media who have to deal with his responses every day. I think it's likely the cumulative effect of Sutter's tone with them that has made them united in their response to him this time.

If I understood correctly, even Pelletier was surprised how big of a deal this was made to be.

There is a lot of media propaganda to fit their narrative, for sure.

100% this. I no longer listen to any of his pressers because I don't have enough hate for the media people dealing with him that I enjoy seeing them squirm. I do wish it wasn't like that and as a result, can't expect him to get many favors from the media either.
But c'est la vie and it's rather low on the list of things I care about. I prefer the athletes I cheer for to be good humans and I believe he is. I like the Alberta connection. And I like how he coaches.
My concern about his perception amongst potential players being an issue is at near zero.

I haven't gone through this entire thread so apologies if this has been posted, but Hockey Hall of Famer Steve Shutt won the Stanley Cup five times under Scotty Bowman and famously said that players on the Montreal Canadiens hated the legendary coach 364 days a year, and on the 365th they got their championship rings.
