The reason why it could never happen with Edmonton is because NEITHER team is going to get the value they believe they need to recoup in a trade with their biggest rival. Quite simply, Treliving is not going to get what he wants from Edmonton in an exchange for Hamilton. Again, this is totally different than swapping later picks or moving a poor performing minor league player. Treliving can't afford to make a trade of this magnitude with the Oilers unless he absolutely robs them, and I don't expect that to happen.

I have no issue conceding the odds are extremely remote, but say there is no chance is simply not true as all it will take is one GM overvaluing the asset(s) they are getting.

At that point it would be a trade of the player selected at #3 for the 6th pick. I know that's not something that the NHL does, but there's a first for everything.

The only reason I see for CBJ to pass on Puljujarvi is because they're desperate for a centre. It has become evident that Dubois is unlikely to play as a centre in the NHL, and there were rumours earlier of CBJ being really high on Brown.

The problem is that the Canucks are also desperate for a centre, and may very well have their eyes on Brown also. So it would be very risky for CBJ to trade #3 for #6 without having some confidence that Brown would be available at #6.
