Don't forget about the triple lottery. No matter where we finish we'll have three chances to get a top 3 pick.

No matter where the Oilers finish they have a 100% chance at a top 4 pick

This goaltending might actually propel us to 30th. Hiller is more likely to give up 4+ than not.

The Leafs and Oilers are pretty terrible. And both will sell. I think it would be hard for them to pass us.
On the bright side BUF (4-3-3) and CBJ (6-2-2) are not doing horrible lately and may pass us.
I think we have a reasonable shot of finishing in the 3rd-5th last range. Should set us up well for the triple lottery and a probable top 5 pick.

Yeah VAN, OTT, MTL and WPG are all playing dangerously bad as well and may end up battling us for lottery position. EDM and TOR likely bottom dwellers. BUF and CBJ in the mix. Canada plus the Sabres and BJs, ladies and gentlemen, that's your draft lottery race!

If Treliving gets his job done soon than later we might be able to rack up a couple extra losses to secure a better draft position. I think we still have it in us to make the top three. If there is any god, Oilers will draft 4th.

You mean ortio/poulin as treliving will work wizardry and move Hiller at the deadline for a pick.

So, if we draft Matthews... what number does he wear?

Looking at the standings, the Flames have little chance at a top 3 pick (leaving the lottery aside) even if they keep playing the way they have been.
Being Oiler bad is actually really, really hard to do.
Hopefully the lottery balls are friendly... or something.

Yeah, I will be shocked if the Flames draft even top 5. Just too much suckage out there, and the Flames aren't that bad of a team. Even with some of the worst goaltending I've ever seen they are muddling along at pretty close to .500

if we go anywhere from 10-11-3 to 8-14-2, finishing 3rd last is actually our most likely outcome according to sportsclubstats
I give you that it's unlikely either TOR or EDM passes us. But CBJ (6-2-2) and BUF (4-3-3) are competitive. If WPG strings a few wins together we are in contention for 3rd last.

The 3 lottery picks keep getting the sunshine and roses positive spin. Just remember we could finish 3rd last and pick 6th; or 4th last and pick 7th and so on.... Put that in your pipe and smoke it for a bit.
But i guess that was the whole point of the extra lotteries now wasnt it.

Interesting quote from this article:
"It can certainly be argued that any of the three members of Red Line’s second tier — Jesse Puljujärvi, Matthew Tkachuk, and Jakob Chychrun — should be included in with that top pair. Each has been impressive enough at times to be considered among the elite.
But we think there’s a clear break after those top five down to the next tier, which runs about a dozen deep — from No. 6 to No. 17. It includes at least one player in our top 10 that has been underrated (Jake Bean), the Mutt-’N-Jeff combo of two of the best pure goal scorers in major junior (Julien Gauthier and Alex DeBrincat — separated by 9 inches, 60 pounds, and one spot in our rankings), and a high school behemoth (Riley Tufte) we’d all like to gauge against better competition."
They suggest the drop from the big 2 (Matthews/Lain) to Puljujarvi, Tkachuk and Chychrun is minor or negligible. I see it as a top 5 as well.
