Agreed. I would actually say most hockey fans don't. We like to believe others do, but at the end of the day, we're the hardcores on CP talking about cap hits contract terminologies on a weekend afternoon.

Well yeah, it does bro. Considering the term 'cap hit' and discussions around it are a daily occurrence on here, I would expect every single poster on this board to understand at least the basics. In your case considering you have been a member of this board for 8 years, regularly post on contentious topics, follow GT's etc...it'd say you care buddy, which is why it's so surprising you have no idea on the very basics of how this sport handles contracts.
Very Vancouverish if you ask me.

What is up with Patrick Sharp? Something about a locker room fight and him hiring a lawyer to combat published rumours about his personal life?

I didn't grow up in Canada (Australia) but have lived in Vancouver among the worst casuals in the country IMO and this stuff is baffling. How can people possibly not understand that contracts can be back ended or front ended, with the cap hit averaged out, when discussions on the topic are held on TV, during games, in the office etc pretty much every day. It'd expect fans in Vancouver for example to know that's how contracts work over being able to name roster players exclusive of the Sedins.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Flames have 5 picks now in top 80 in June. Can use one of those picks on a D beore deadline but won't overpay. If it's not there, so be it
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Those are picks that are just as valuable come June in other trade talks before draft for Flames

I don't know but I'd say for every informed hockey fan I meet outside this board, I'll encounter 10 more that don't follow the business side at all, like not even a little. If they do make a comment, it's usually something about players being paid too much or tickets being too expensive. They're 'fans' for something to do, not because they're passionate. It's especially bad in BC for that kind of thing. I know maybe one or two people I can actually have a legitimate discussion about the game, business side or otherwise. Yet I know dozens of people that appear to at least be following a team to some extent.

Eh, really? I work in an office of about 50 people. 50% IT technical peeps(so nerds, not sporty peeps), 25% management, some HR and sales ladies etc. Of those 50 it'd say 30 are hockey 'fans', have a team and watch at least a few games a season. I reckon the majority of those 30 fans could tell me what a cap hit is, simply from overhearing discussions or growing up in Canada where there is basically only 1 sport. My original comment saying how it amazes me how many fans don't understand it was targeted at this board. If you register for CP, wait for it to go through and take part in discussions, you are in the top % of fans IMO and it is shocking to see some of the lack of knowledge people have here. It is often the same people who enter into heated discussions on contentious topics and you sit there wondering, wtf, how can they possibly believe that?
There are some truly clueless bandwagoners in Vancouver though who claim to be huge fans. Nothing more cringe worthy than entering into a hockey discussion with someone you have just met to have their eyes glaze over at the first mention of a player, coach, recent result or prospect.
Anyway, off topic, proceed.

Those Rangers are nuts.
Best team in the league since early December, and they are making huge moves here.
HAve to wonder if they should be leaving well enough alone. Chemistry can be a funny thing.

The one thing that so many deals done a day or two early, and that the TSN and Sportsnet panels are counting on, is that it allows some time for other teams to reevaluate their positions this evening, and if they want to, they have time to react in the next 22h.
Especially a team like the Isles and others in the east, who see the Rags doing what they are doing in loading up.

Still would be okay with the Flames shipping off one more veteran player. If teams are interested, this would be the time to sell at a premium.
Too bad Smid is injured, he could be a player that a playoff team may want for their Stanley Cup run.
Wouldn't mind trading 1 or 2 of: Stajan, Raymond, Smid, Engelland, Jones, Bollig.

^ same here. If you could get a 2nd/3rd for Glencross, then you should try to get at least another 3rd or two if you can move some more guys.
Think of adding another Granlund, Wotherspoon, McDonald, Gillies, Smith, Hickey while opening spots on the roster for Poirier, Sven etc.
Win win.

Listening to the Leafs / Capitals pre-game show and heard an interesting rumour. The Cap's "insider" suggested Washington might not be done trading after the Glencross trade of earlier today. He said he has heard that a substantial blockbuster with Edmonton may be in the offering with Petry & Eberle going to the the U.S. capital. He didn't elaborate on what might be returning to the Oilers. Hmmmmm ......

@PollakOnSharks: Hearing that James Sheppard may be the first #SJShark heading out at the trade deadline.
