The Taylor goal is indeed a catastrophic error for which we could not prepare, but she capitalized on our mistake with a great finish. The Bronze goal primarily happened because they beat us tactically, but she capitalized and put the ball in the net.

Herdman has come out and said the Bronze goal was his fault. Even though she was unmarked, you would have hoped a goalie at this level could have jumped to reach the header. It was directly at her but she McLeod just didn't have enough vertical.

Feel pretty crappy for Lauren Sesselmann. Good on her for owning up to her mistake. She posted this on her Instagram account.

lsesselmWords cannot describe how utterly heartbroken I am. The tears have not stopped flowing and this one is going to hurt for a really really long time. Yes I slipped, yes they scored and yes you can blame me all you want..If that's what makes you feel better fine. No one knows how hard I worked to get back from injury to be a part of this special team and make a difference. I know my worth and I know all the great things I've done to help this team get here. For all you classless people with your negative comments and threats you know absolutely nothing. You can sit there and choose to focus on every negative and pick apart our team BUT you have NO IDEA how much passion, heart and hard work this team puts in. No matter what any of you say I am so damn proud to wear this jersey and so damn proud of what we have accomplished and how hard we fought. Yes we arn't perfect and yes we ALL made mistakes, every great athlete makes mistakes..YOU even make mistakes..it's part of life...but it's how you respond that matters, and we never stopped fighting. And I can promise you all this...WE WILL be back and WE WILL be better. THANK YOU to all the fans who have supported us thru thick and thin...and Thank you to my friends and family...Who ALWAYS believe in me and pick me up when I fall. I am so proud to play alongside all of these beautiful and talented women...This truly will be a journey I will never forget. I ❤️ you all and can't wait for what's to come. The future is extremely bright. #TrueNorthStrong #Family #Sisterhood #TogetherWeRise🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Chickens came home to roost for Canada, she made no fewer mistakes in that game, than she did in every game, this time a good team made us pay.
It's on Herdman he stayed with Tancredi and Sesselmann all tourney. Truly weak links.

That Sesselman quote is a microcosm of the problems on the team, I think. I got the sense the whole tournament that this team thinks hard work, camaraderie, and saying the right things is good enough. I'm pretty sure all the teams work hard. All the post-game interviews from the players sounded the same throughout the tournament, yeah we didn't bury our chances and our technical play was not the best, but oh well we worked hard. The facts are that England had one less day of rest and had to fly in from Ottawa. And even when Canada was beating the lower seeded teams, it was not too impressive. I actually think people have been too easy on the team. Everything was set-up for a much better performance this time.

yeah everyone practices hard. Journalists have mentioned that watching the French and Japanese practice was insane.

I wouldn't blame Sesselmann, it happens and the nature of all sports.
But
reading that reply, I'm not surprised things played out like they did. Unfortunately reply so much ground was made and lost at the same time. Very weak message and should should really take it down as it shows very poorly on her.

Jason de Vos has been talking on Twitter about how hard work and grit is no longer enough and both the Men's and Women's team will need technical abilities going forward.

On the opposite spectrum, Claire Lavogez's twitter feed is her retweeting all the tweets that supported/consoled her after her miss. She probably feels much worse than Sesselmann.

After the quarterfinal match the Japanese coaches had all the players who didn't play out on the field going through some pretty intense drills and a small scrimmage thing. It was crazy, especially in that heat!

I don't like it actually. That message is just full of excuses.
Be a pro about it. All she had to do was thank the fans for their support, voila.

Why dont they come out and say "we tried hard, but we know our technical ability sucks, what more can we say?"
Watching Kara Lang refuse to critize the team was aggravating beyond belief. It's like she was in high school and lost her mind if anyone said anything about her friend's reputations. She should have just come out and said the womens game has changed, and our players just aren't good enough anymore.
Celebrating "trying hard and giving maximum effort" it's stupid. It hides the real problems with the program.

Such is my confidence in the ability of the talented US back line to shut down Sasic and Mittag that I'm expecting a narrow US win tomorrow, maybe in ET. Odds slightly favour Germany as they should, if not for that horrendous performance vs France...
GER 2.25 vs USA 3.00 (ET/PK 2.75)
ENG 3.60 vs JPN 1.85 (ET/PK 3.00)
Japan a big favourite over England of course, but that game could be tight too. Looking for England to use their edge in size and strength.

This. It's disgusting that she's getting attacked on social media for this when she's been glaringly incompetent all tournament long. I don't think it's grasping at straw to say Herdman pretty much threw her under the bus - or maybe it's more accurate to say Herdman let her crawl under the bus, did nothing as the keys were in the ignition and people walked by, then Jodie Taylor finally jumped in and hit the gas.

Extra security has been called arranged for the US team in every city they've been to, as their bus gets swarmed by fans. In Canada. (this was at the hotel last game)

C'mon Germany. Started off well but got poorer as the half went on.
