Exciting to hear Connie say "it may only happen for a game" in reference to Gaudreau and Arnold. As if the leg work has already been done and they'll be on a plane to Vancouver after the final game happens in the frozen four, and be in the Flames line-up the next day!
I agree, his answers almost appear as if he knows something we don't.
I can't think of a better guy than conroy to spearhead convincing gaudreau to sign. Being from the states himself he could talk up how great it is in Calgary even for an American kid from the eastern U.S.
Plus conroy's such a likeable guy that he could probably even charm over gaudreau's mom into changing her mind.
"As a hockey person, not as a father, I think he needs another level to play at," Guy Gaudreau said. "As his mom and dad, we think it's very important that he get his education."
Johnny Gaudreau admits he has been wrestling with his decision.
"It's tough," Johnny Gaudreau said. "My mom really wants me to stay, and I want her to be comfortable with my decision. I feel like either will be a good decision for me."
"If the Flames told him he had to play for nothing, he would do it," Guy Gaudreau said. "He's happiest when he's on the ice."
Quote:
"It's a man's game," an NHL scouting director who asked not to be identified said in discussing Gaudreau as an NHL prospect. "He's a special guy. Maybe he'll be one of the little guys who beats the odds. But the odds are not in his favor."

Kind of sounds like he really wants to move on but doesn't want to disappoint his mom.
I think he signs, especially once he wins the hobey this weekend. He doesn't need to experience a college graduation. A national championship, a hobey baker, and being the best player in college hockey is his graduation.

especially if he gets that one game in to kick start the contract this year. Not playing for the Heat would give him some significant time to work towards his degree this summer. It was noted that he was a couple classes ahead of schedule as it is.

No kidding. I think it's time to figure out what he is. Is he a student or a hockey player? If he's a student, then he finishes his final year, graduates and moves on from there. If he's a hockey player though, then the next step in his career is to turn pro.
The absolute worst case scenario (for him) is if he wants to be a hockey player, but stays in college for his final year. He'll stagnate in a league that he's outgrown, he'll have lost a ton of the hype because now he'll just be a "bully" in a league he's way too good for and he'll be an undersized, undrafted free-agent that won't even have the "well we used a pick on him, so let's at least give him a chance" cushion with an NHL team to fall back on. Sure, he'll get a ton of tryouts, but he'll have a lot more to prove if that happens, and he'll have lost a step after cruising down easy-street for a 4th season.
Harsh? Probably, but this is a pretty big deal for this guy. Regardless if he's with the Flames or not, I'd just love to see him succeed anywhere. I just think he's gonna have to climb a much bigger hill if he goes back to BC for his final year.
If they lose tonight they are done right? I guess he could sign tomorrow, but would assume would hold off until Hobey Baker is awarded so as to not piss off the old white boys Hobey committee?
Well the other 2 finalists are already playing pro hockey in the AHL.
Could be possible none of the finalists are there for the ceremony.

They don't play till tomorrow but yes if they lose they are done.
Does anyone know if the Frozen Four is on TV at all?
Like are any of the basic sports channels going to cover it?
Hopefully Boston College wins it all, Gaudreau wins the Hobey Baker and is on a flight to Calgary on Saturday to suit up against Vancouver Sunday along with Bill Arnold. Perfect scenario!

Is friday vs the Jets a possibility if they lose tomorrow?
I'm wondering cause I'm gonna be there. Would be so stoked to watch Johnny in his first game with the Flames.
Certainly a possibility.
But given the Hobey Baker will be given out the next day in pretty much his hometown where all his family and friends can come and see him get it... don't know how likely.
