Has Lord been to one of these new Utopian (SARS free) neighbourhoods recently?
Where is all this grass he's seeing? Any time I go visit someone living in one of those neighbourhoods, I'm amazed at how small everyone's yard is. Or is "grass" a euphemism for all the grow ops in the new burbs?

The Last thing FirstLady is is a coward.
She put herself out there by publishing her name on a website that was created as a 'Parody' website and to show the hypocracy of another organization in refusing to disclose where it gets it money, its organizational structure and creators while maintaining it is 'unbiased'.
I am sure FirstLady knew there would be a huge amount of backlash against her by Nenshi supporters, yet she went ahead and did it anyways.
That shows guts in my opinion.
Whether you support Nenshi or not - you should acknowledge that organizations need to be held accountable.

Okay, Cory.
Pretty sad that you, Jane, or anyone else beating this type of thought doesn't understand the outrage has nothing to do with Mayor Nenshi.

Lol, putting up a site and then running away when people start asking questions, is really gutsy stuff. You make our war-veterans look like sissy cowards.
I thought the whole point was to "generate discussion". Why not actually discuss it instead of doing a couple of drive by joke posts?
Oh and how exactly did that site hold Civic Camp accountable?

A whole lot of guts to get called on for help creating the site, refuse to answer a dozen or so posts on it, than post some lame joke later on in the thread.
She's a coward. She is presently refusing to answer any sort of reasonable questions and is simply being an ignorant coward. But their dumb ass site is getting hits cause we're talking about it so I'm sure they're soaking it up. Just scum...and no guts at all.

Guys, guys...
First Lady isn't worth our time. Let's give her stupid rip-off site the amount of attention it deserves (zero) and move on to other, more pressing topics like Jon Lord thinking that high-density communities have "scary neighbours" and "SARS outbreaks".

I call BS on their later claim that "it was a joke". Yeah, it became "a joke" when people were actually really pissed about it. Jane needed to wait for Cory to get off the phone with Markusoff before they "decided" "it's just a joke!!11!"
You wont find me sticking up for you anymore, Jane.

Has anyone even thought about SARS in ten years? Is Lord using "SARS outbreaks" in place of "Asian people" in that sentence?
According to this (which is the only thing I could find with any reference to SARS cases in Calgary), there were 3 suspected cases of SARS in Calgary during the big outbreak in 2003: http://www.ucalgary.ca/oncampus/stories/sars.html

I have an open mind.
So tell me what was so bad about this website and change my opinion.
Maybe I am un-educated about issues surrounding this site, so enlighten me.
I will be the first to admit it when I am wrong.

I'm loathe to do this because I don't want to condone the commandeering of the name or defend their actions, but I actually think that there were some questions asked here that ought to have been. I say that as a definite supporter of Civic Camp (the original one). I think their work to put on forums, stream them and open access has been excellent and I am very happy with their work.
So what questions, you might ask? Well it did strike me as odd that there was no accountability for their funding. I do think that the whole thing could've been prevented for about $100 and following a few guidelines to register as a society. That's actually a pretty important issue; if you plan to ask candidates to disclose their financials (which I also agree with) and don't so it yourself its somewhat hollow.
All that being said, there was another way to approach this. Why not get a hold of Civic Camp and say "hey, I noticed you guys haven't registered as a society...can I help with that because I happen to know how you go about that.". After all, its a volunteer organization and they clearly could've used the advice! I also know that if I were one of the people in charge I not only would've appreciated that angle as opposed to basically rubbing my face in it to prove a point.

It's been covered numerous times in this thread, Bigtime did in the first couple posts on the issue. It's not anyone's job to educate you on this issue, it's really obvious what's scummy about what Cory and his puppet Jane did here, you really shouldn't need it spelled out for you.

I have read through this thread and haven't really heard very many convincing arguments.
Just alot of 'chest beating' and name calling.
I think the #1 criticism of the parody site was the fact they registered the name of another organization and alot of people might view that as if the creators of the website were trying to 'steal' the name & brand & legitimacy of civic camp.
I do not think this was their intent. I don't see Jane & Cory trying to sue Civic Camp and demanding that they 'cease and desist' their activities because they aren't registered.
If Jane & Cory did do this, then I would side with Civic Camp and say they definitely got a raw deal.

They took the same name, similar logo, similar colours scheme, similar website purpose in an attempt to confuse voters.
It's as clear as day. I don't care if you agree with the real CivicCamp or agree and align perfectly with Cory and Puppet Morgan's political views, that's just a scummy thing to do, plain and simple. Can't spell it out any easier then that.
Calling it a parody site is a total misunderstanding of the word parody by the way.

We can discuss both.
I've already voted so if I didn't care what Jon Lord had to say before I certainly don't now. The guy is only a factor because no one wanted to run against the popular incumbent mayor.

Here is a quote in the comments section by one of the Admin's of the site, after being asked how they came up with Grades for the Candidates:
"Sure Rick. We determined the rankings in a completely arbitrary and biased manner in a discussion with the board.
We will not try to pretend the be unbiased. :-)"
I figured out this site was a joke and a parody after reading the comments section.
I hadn't even heard of Civic Camp before, until this controversy.
I doubt this website will confuse voters.
Maybe it might confuse the not so intelligent voters, but we know they are all voting for Nenshi and his slate anyways ;-)

You think wrong - the main criticism is that their rip-off site rated the candidates, so their obvious intent was to use Civic Camp's reputation to advance their own agenda. Do you not see how this being brought online shortly before the civic elections makes it obvious that the intent was not to satirize or parody? Only the most naive, or the most partisan, could possibly think the timing of this has anything to do with legitimate political criticism and not sleazy opportunism.

I would agree with you 100% had it not been for the Admin acknowledgement in the comments section of the 'candidate ratings' that they choose their candidates in a biased manner, and then used a winking face.
This post doesn't exist and I am 100% onside with you.
- And ofcourse the timing of the ratings was done to coincide with the election, otherwise if there is no election, what candidates do you have to rate?
I think people on this Board and making a big deal out of this and misinterpreting the website's objectives.
This is just my opinion.
And for the record, I am not a huge fan of Jon Lord. I don't think he would make a great Mayor. I think he would make a great MLA or Councillor (as he has shown in the past). He has his faults and had said some pretty stupid things, but he has also raised issues like 'rising taxes' which will resonate with alot of people.
I think if the Manning Center took in donations and wasn't a registered not-for-profit organization and held candidate forums and said it was un-biased, then I would be critical of them too!
It works both ways!
I just think everyone needs to be held accountable.
