So unless I'm crazy, the 8GB is on for 299 at futureshop through koodo. But I can buy it through them without a contract, so is there any reason why I shouldn't do that as opposed to through the google website for 309 plus tax and shipping?
Sounds good to me!
Sometimes though prices are for new customers though but if that's what they're selling it for, go for it.
I'm worried about buying a year old phone when a new one is around the block. But the price makes this awfully tempting. If I bought it at a futureshop, could they do the sim swap for me?
And I can't find it on the futureshop website, does anyone have a link? I saw it in stores.

The store can do a Sim Swap for you, it's no problem. It's simple.
What phone are you coming from again?
If you want to wait, then wait.. but IIRC in another thread you needed a new phone and at 299, hard to pass up. If you're always waiting for the next phone to come out you're always going to be waiting.
If you like the phone, if you like the price, go for it.
iPhone 4. Maybe I will go for it...very tempted. I'm in BC on holidays right now, maybe I should just pick it up.

Definitely one of the best deals out there. Even if it's a year old and technology always moving as fast as it does, it's still set hardware wise for another year and a half, probably two. Software, same thing. Can't go wrong with it.

Yeah, I find battery life is average at best. Its a decent trade off considering the power and capabilities though. I love my Nexus 4 and will continue buying Nexus products for the foreseeable future.
How do I get the phone to talk to me when I ask a question a la siri?

Google now doesn't seem to respond to me, just gives me results. What am I doing wrong? Not really a big deal I just want to try it out.

GoogleNow isn't just about asking it questions. It will learn as you use the phone more. The cards that GoogleNow brings up as you use it more is remarkable and borders on creepy at times. If I am planning a quick trip at home and google map something on my home computer, I go out to my car and GoogleNow has the search results already mapped out on my phone. I love when I order a package online and the shipping details are ready and when it arrives Google Now informs me of it.

Flight bordering passes etc too.
If you format your phone and upgrade your phone is the history and profile built up with google now on the cloud? or do you always start from 0?
