Unfortunately it got worse too, they significantly reduced the range on the anti-air missiles. Seems like they are trying to make the helicopters have more impact.
A couple friends and I had success in the tank by equipping javelins. Once the CITV has a lock fire the guided shell, then the others in the tank hop out and fire their javelins at the lock about a second apart. Something will hit that chopper, guaranteed.
Edit: The same technique works well when another tank is locking on to you with the guided shell from a distance. You'll be able to hit him with three shots to his one.

I've discovered the Stinger is much improved with the patch. It was totally useless before. You'd hit the chopper a bunch of times and nothing would happen. I was annoyed that the choppers seemed nearly invincible after the patch, but the stinger upgrade takes care of that.
It locks on it about 1 second and will disable a chopper in one shot, or destroy it if it's already damaged. Because of the fast lock on I just lock on, fire, and if they deploy flares, lock-on and fire again. It's basically impossible for them to get away from the second shot unless they get really lucky and it hits a building or something.
The only weakness it has now is its limited range. But it's to the point where if I'm driving in a tank with someone in the CITV seat, I don't even bother using the guided shell. I just hop out and fire the stinger at the chopper instead. Way more effective.
Well, they've added a bit of a "Pay-To-Win" element to BF3 now, putting "kits" up for sale on Origiin. You can pay to have all weapons and gadgets unlocked for the different classes.
Personally, I don't like pay-to-win because it makes me feel like what I've accomplished isn't all that special or hard, or what I want to accomplish isn't much of a goal any longer. Why not just pay $5 and get the same? I am sure others will.
Lame.

The only reason I disagree is because not everyone has the time to commit to getting the unlocks. So just because I have a family and other obligations I should be at a disadvantage? The gun unlocks are less an issue, but the vehicle unlocks basically make or break your ability to even survive.
Ideally there wouldn't be unlocks that affect gameplay at all, make the unlocks distinctive but equal (i.e. the guns look nicer, distinctive looks, etc).
I hate the paying part as well, because it's just a cash grab by EA, but from a time limited gamer point of view it at least gives a person the ability to play on an even playing field.
I'd prefer a free unlock code that lets me unlock the items, but if someone wants to earn them then they can not use the unlock code and get fancier versions.. or unlock codes that open up over time after a certain percentage of players unlock a specific weapon...

I understand that they want new players to feel as if they're on an even playing field (even though you get guns like the M16A3 from start, one of the best guns in the game), but I don't think they should have unlocks to begin with, then, if that's the goal they're going for now, because it obviously wasn't at the beginning. If you don't have the time to put into the game and get good at it you're going to be at a large disadvantage, unlocked guns or not, so just do away with it instead of punishing the players who don't have the money or don't want to spend the money to get the kits. Or just unlock things like smoke for vehicles that are a necessity, at the least. That would be the actual way to level the playing field (as far as guns go) -- not this type of pay-to-win system that won't level anything, and just devalues the time that gamers that were with the game from launch put into it.

I'm getting tired of all the dang server admins stacking teams or killing someone on the other team if they're winning and swapping teams.

Personally I think that your starting weapon should be a board with a nail in it.

I really don't mind if people pay more money to unlock all the kits. I can somewhat understand it. When I first started playing the BF3 beta, all these players had better scopes and attachments on their guns, made me a little jealous. It's not like the starting guns are underpowered.
It is a little different for the vehicles, though. Especially the air vehicles. Hard to get enough points to level up when you don't have any unlocks.
I've recently got back into BF3. Seems to be way less mortar spam. It looks to me like they made a change for the attackers in Rush on Grand Bazar. The attackers seem to get a tank after the first set of m-coms. This makes sense as that was always one the harder points to advance on.
Personally I think that they should make a Battlefield 1 million BC, where you start as a Caveman with a rock or a club as a weapon and part of your crafting skills is inventing new weapons.
Imagine being the first to create long bows or throwable spears for your raing party.
If you eat better you get smarter faster.
Eventually you'd be able to create rudimentary gun powder based weapons.
Plus you could build bear pit traps with spikes and smear your own poop on it to give your enemy a debilitating infection.

Just play Minecraft.

I'd want it from a first person point of view. If I wanted it any other way I might as well play CIV.
I wonder what the rating on the game would be if you could graphically smash a guys skull in with a club. Or if you had to sacrifice a virgin by pulling her guts out and tossing her down a volcano in order to get some skill boost from the gods.
Of couse what if you could pick farmer as a class and your first person view was of you dropping seeds in holes and waiting six months before harvesting them.
