All I know is that the team name is gonna suck and we're gonna have to deal with it

Can't believe we will have a arena on par in terms of costs with that arena, nuts.

The DC originally housed the SLC Golden Eagles and then the Utah Grizzles, both of the IHL. It also was the figure skating and short track speed skating venue for the 2002 Olympics. For hockey, the DC holds the record for one game attendance in American minor league hockey history, during the 1996 Turner Cup Finals, at 17381. Renovations were done, in 2016, to improve the place as a basketball arena, that are part of the reason for the current sight-line difficulties.

Meruelo just seems like a bit of a socially awkward person, which I can kind of relate to.
I also thought it was interesting that Bettman said Ryan Smith would have preferred to wait for an expansion club when their arena renovations would be ready in two years, but because the situation in Arizona, the league asked if he could step in now.
He seemed to inadvertently admit that there are plans to expand in a few years, and I presume that it wouldn't have been a one team expansion. I could just be jumping to conclusions there however.

I don't hate ‘Yetis’. I dislike singular nicknames for sports teams, so I really hope it isn't ‘Yeti’.
‘Utah HC’ would be the blandest and most unmarketable name in NHL history. I mean, I was kidding when I suggested ‘Utah Generics’, but ‘HC’ is even worse.

Hockey club is amazing.
I'd be even more inclined to support it.

Utah Fury sounds the best out of those, according to my wife. Thoughts and prayers to anyone who disagrees.

HC would be unique among North American hockey so that'd be interesting. Better than those other names selected from NHL 05 create-a-team mode dropdown.

I’d reject European naming traditions, too, if North American naming traditions over the last couple decades hadn’t skewed toward what 10 year old boys think is cool.

The Jets' Mark Scheifele wore a generic NHL jersey at the 2011 entry draft. Same day they announced the team name.
I can see the Utah team doing the same. I think they'll be kitted out in uniforms come opening night, with fan apparel available by Christmas (scarcity also creates demand).

Smith has already said he won’t be rushed to pick a name for Utah . He said he would rather go with no name than pick something they aren’t 100% happy with. My guess HC and hockey club are for temporary one year use just in case. Washington redskins did it for one year before picking commanders .

Golden knights and Kraken are still as bad as when they were announced.
Honestly these owners need to give up their entire creative reins to a professional branding team from day one.
Giving them say is what leads to the stupidity we've seen of late.
Just stay in your lane and save the stupid names for your children lol.
