it's ridiculous how cheap gems are on the AH, and the prices seem to keep falling. a square gem, which is around middle of the pack of all the gem qualities, will give +30 to your base stat and can be had for a few thousand gold per. far cheaper than leveling up and then combining gems at the crafter

The only point in having the crafter it seems is for the achievements....
Might as well just buy them

Inferno mode is no joke. My group will be attempting the butcher later. All elite mob packs have an enrage timer where you start taking huge dot ticks if you take too long to kill them. You have to let them reset and try again.
Start collecting magic find gear. When we get the last mob of an elite pack down low we all swap to full mf gear. Even doing this and getting lots of rares, gear progression is slow.

If you make enough profits for the CRA to be worrying about, I think you need to start worrying about getting a bit more fresh air.....

Yeah I was able to buy a gem and put it on a 3000 gold weapon and do more damage than weapons for 10x+ the price.

The prices on the AH are so out of whack right now.
Low level crafting mats are selling for less than the items you salvage to get them.
I'm considering buying up a bunch of cheap mats and crafting some rare low level items that usually come with sockets and seeing if I can profit off of those.
Also, I'm enjoying this game a lot more than I thought I would. I even got my wife into the game and she had never played an action RPG.

I think my biggest beef I have at the moment, but it is a minor thing. The fact that everyone will be max level is really annoying to me. Getting 99 in D2 was a chore and an achievement, where as getting 60 in D3 is just going to be required. I highly dislike this, but other than that this game is boss. Still wish I could ruin a character though and make it a super challenge.

Best thing to do when searching for an item on AH is to set a max buyout price in search options. Thats because the same item could be selling for 50,000 AND 5,000 depending on who's selling it!

I snagged another great shield (110 Dex) for 2000 on the auction house
Basically adds more to my attack than a 2nd weapon under 250 DPS but gives me 500+ armor etc

or just sort by buyout price, that's been the easiest way to buy stuff that i've found

Never even thought of doing that to look for cheap stuff. I should take a look. Buying weapons etc is such a mess that I have stuck to gems, pages etc and my own selling.

make sure you put a max buyout price... if not you could get 50 pages of stuff with no buyout

Another good tip, especially when going up against Diablo on Nightmare
Vitality bonus + sockets on everything to increase Dex or strength helps immensely even if it's a slight down grade on the amount of damage you do. I have 12K HP now and only about 250 less DPS (4050 vs 4300), yet prior to that modification, I only had 5500 HP

Hm, good to know, I've been doing the opposite, focusing on DPS at the expense of HP, though I'm on normal and in Act III still so probably doesn't matter, I rarely have to use my monk's heal let alone a potion.

oh you'll be using the healing spells alot when you get to nightmare. serenity with the healing rune is invaluable later in the game

It is kind of funny, someone mentioned making sure you move your new healing potions into the hotkey slot when you get them and I only just barely began to use the 550hp healing pots yesterday. Yesterday, from the middle of Act 3 to the end of Act 4, I almost quadrupled by HP from 650 to over 2400. I still am not happy with it, and am trying to find some gear that has Vitality in addition to Dex.
Using the max buyout has made it really easy to upgrade some peices for dirt cheap (2k or less), but I am trying to add in magic find if possible, and that moves the average piece price up to about 8-10k. I think I am at about +75% MF or so right now.

As a raid leader from WoW who constantly had to deal with rogues that went all out dps, I would often tell them "Dead heroes do 0 dps."
It's applicable here, too.

So I finished regular yesterday and kitted myself out a bit while waiting for my friend to finish. I'm a 35 demon hunter sitting at 4800 HP and 1090 damage on the character screen. After hearing how crazy Nightmare was, I've been pretty disappointed so far. Am I just outgearing it?
I started Nightmare at 33 with 510 character screen damage and even then it wasn't as bad as people were making it out. So I'm not sure if I'm in for a rude awakening at some point.
