One of the prizes should be a pink slip. Then you'll see some guys that are happy to win a blu ray player or a tv.

The company my dad is with always gave out the employees choice of a turkey or ham for christmas. I thought it was great as a kid. It was kind of the start of the holiday season when the company turkey arrived.

One of the numbers should be an employee execution, nothing says work harder then watching one of your work buddies taking a bullet in the brain.
Boss - "Ok who has number 16, calling number 16"
Smithers - "Me sir . . .yeah baby"
Boss - "Excellent Smithers step forward"
Pulls out a gun and kills Smithers, then looks at the rest of the shocked employees.
Boss - "Now, next year we've set a goal for a 24% increase in profits, anyone have a problem with that . . . oh and Merry Christmas"

I don't know if I'll get a Christmas bonus or not. This job where I'm at now (in the service sector, been here for 3.5 years) is the first job I've ever had that gave a Christmas bonus. Usually it's been a couple of hundred dollars...nothing enormous but a real help during the holidays. I have moved up somewhat within the company and have a better idea of where the money all comes from (and where it goes), and I'm grateful that the company makes the gesture.
This year, I don't know if there will be bonuses. But I logged a substantial raise (over 30% - but trust me, I wasn't exactly rolling before so it's not some crazy figure) this year, which has been such a blessing. But this year more than ever, I am SO happy to have a job where I'm at least respected as a person and get a decent paycheck twice a month. If I get a bonus I'll probably take an overnight vacation somewhere fun and count my blessings...but goodness gracious, I am grateful to have work.
Happy Holidays everyone.

We took our staff to Las Vegas earlier this year, in lieu of a Xmas bonus.

I'm a closer!!
We do bonuses at our firm, but I'm not involved in deciding the amounts. (Just an associate, not a partner) I have a certain expectation, but don't gripe if I don't hit it because I have a pretty good idea of the revenue stream and negotiate my salary each year accordingly.

I worked at chapters for like 8 months when i was 17, part time. It was sweet, for christmas, us part-timers got a $300 gift card. Thats pretty decent for part timers. I think full-timers got 400 or 500, and seasonal staff got 200. Since then working part time, I havn't got a bonus.

Bonuses are a fickle thing.
I know some people who get 100 bucks, others who get 1000 bucks or gift cards to safeway and stuff. Then there are those professionals who yearly make +250K and get 75K bonuses... Life isnt fair.

A couple years ago I worked for a company that shall remain un-named, and all year they told us if we met certain expectation's cost and revenue-wise we would all get a Christmas bonus. Everyone worked hard and we achieved all these goals only to be told that there would be no bonus that year. Later on people found out that the managers all got a nice little bonus. Needless to say I wasn't there much longer.

For Christmas bonus, I got a $200 Coles (our Safeway equivalent) gift card. But the Coles chain includes Liqourland... cha-ching!
Our performance bonuses are also paid just before Christmas, and it's weird... I work for the same company that I did in Calgary, but here our performance bonuses are literally about 100x what they were in Canada. I'm in management, so I know that it isn't just my bonus, it's across the board. I work in consulting, for the record.
Also, for anyone who does consulting and are trying to figure out if they are getting screwed, a typical multiplier in many fields is 3.0. i.e. if you charge out at $240 / hr, typically you'd be getting paid about $80 / hr. It'll vary from field to field or situation to situation, but it's a general indicator.
