Best of 2010 Music Releases

Tron (Daft Punk) and Deadmau5 are both releasing new albums next week. The tracks that have been released on the Deadmau5 album have been really good so far. It's amazing that a computer programmer from Toronto has done so well for himself in the electonic music industry.

Oh I procured it through an entirely legal process. I most definitely did not go to torrentz.com and search for it. Nope, downloaded it completely legally.

That album has two songs that I can tolerate, the one with Mos Def and the first single. But outside of that, I can't stand it. Especially considering how fantastic Demon Days was.

I feel the same way, but maybe, not like, instead of can't stand. The first single though is superb.

Frog Eyes #2 on Pop Matters and PS I Love you #4 on exclaim....these lists are always full of bands you want to check out. In this case I saw both of these bands play the Republik the same night and wasn't overly impressed with either. If you watch the youtube of Frog Eyes linked you will see why....Carey Mercer is like this for much of the concert.....way better band when they had Spencer Krug though. PS I love you are very LOUD but just a bit better vs Frog Eyes. Surprised to see either on these lists. Also speaking of Spencer Krug I was surprised to see Expo 86 (Wolf Parade) on the list as I thought that album was a big dissapointment but never got around to listening to it.....anyone else? Many of these lists are hit and miss....

Really? That is some pretty sleepy stuff imo. I guess if you are up against other soundtracks it might do ok this/next year...

The problem is there are so many sites and lists these days thats its hard to build any kind of consensus. The indie sites are always trying to be the first to discover some great band (yet they often miss) and the mainstream sites usually ignore a lot of good music in favour of commercially popular material. The problem I have with the more indie publications these days is more often than not I end up disappointed with their recommendations than actually discover something good. Lets face it, any hipster with a mac, skinny jeans and converse shoes thinks he/she can discover the next Arcade Fire and post it on their blog. I find when something that should be indie ends up getting some mainstream attention then maybe it has some potential.
