The site doesn't say it's not bad for you, it debunks a few outlined myths.
But I get what you are saying, I just think that pot gets a worse rep than it deserves. I'd like to see more studies and get a really balanced outlook on it.
Thanks for the contribution- I hadn't even considered the sleep thing. Usually it makes me sleepier after a few hours... I would not have thought it was disruptive.

These pot smoking debates have the exact same feel as religion debates, and I feel the same way about both of them.
You are free to think whatever you want about the issue. Even though I have a different point of view, its fine that you disagree with me. But PLEASE, don't come and cram down my throat your thoughts and beliefs and tell me I am wrong for thinking differently. Pick your side and keep quiet about it.

The problem with these debates is that people seem to automatically bring alochol into the discussion. Yes they are both drugs, so I get that. However, marijuana should only be compared to a drug such as caffeine.
There are of course differences between the two; one being that caffeine is physically addictive.
As Nage Waze sort of notes, both affect your sleep pattern.
Gateway drug? Give me a break! I had asprin long before I ever smoked pot (which I haven't done for around 5 years). If 99% of heroin users have used asprin does that mean it is the gateway drug?
The only reason it could possibly be a gateway drug, is because it is a gateway into the underground, illegal, black market. A drug dealer is in the market for making money, so if you keep going to your dealer for pot and they also sell other drugs offering you some, if you had a inclination to try it once, eventually you will the longer you are exposed to it.
A lot of people don't do drugs, simply because they aren't exposed to them. So many people smoke marijuana because it is all around them, they are hyper-exposed (although the older and more "professional" you get the more people hide their outside habits)

I've never smoked pot, and I've decided to stay very far away because I appear to get addicted to pretty much everything. It's the same reason I never have alcohol in my house. I'm sure it wouldn't destroy my life if I tried it, but I don't see the point of adding one more thing into my life that could potentially ruin it.

If you can find all this then post it, we're having a debate and you are invited. Don't take my debating the wrong way, I'm not attacking anybody.
BTW the article I posted still has more weight IMO. While your article concludes that:
One is making educated predictions, while the other is using a sample of real people who are smoking it. Neither are conclusive... but the article you posted is looser IMO.
The bottom line to me is that it's innocent until at least it sways towards guilty. It seems a lot more like a waste of govt resources to go after something that, while not harmless, is probably on par or less harmful than Alcohol.
|
And redvan was giving his opinion that pot smokers are idiots. I'm a casual pot smoker and I agree with him. Smoking weed makes you dumber. All my friends who smoke weed will tell you the same thing. Anytime you do something that causes you to be dumber and could harm your body you are an idiot. Same goes for alcohol and cigarettes. IMO anyone who does something that harms their body is an idiot and that includes myself.
Nothing really wrong with that statement, but you seemed to take it as such a personal attack.
Anyways, back to marijuana.
I like it on occasion and if it doesn't cause cancer then great, but I think we are still in the early stages of testing and studies to make a definite conclusion.
Science is still probably 100 years away from knowing as much about marijuana and its side effects, as they know about cigarettes.

Hahaha OK let's use that sentence with some other arbitrary criteria.
"People who post with the username "puckluck" are idiots." That's not an attack thats my opinion...

"All your friends" arent scientists, puck. Also, I don't agree in the least that "anyone who does something that harms their body is an idiot". Sometimes benefits outweigh consequences. Chemotherapy anyone?

Well, yeah, everything has 'health consequences.'
Putting smoke, of pretty much any variety, into your body is not going to be all rainbows and sunshine.

If anyone is bored just search news stories for 1930-1960 on google about smoking cigarettes. There was a lot of doubt that cigarettes caused cancer at that time and I think in about 50 years people will be looking back at marijuana the same way.

While caffeine even at 8 cups a day might increase my heart rate, make me a little jittery, and increase my blood pressure, I don't think it alters my reality.
I don't believe your comparison is even close.

Yeah well people used to think blood transfusions from animals cured many ailments. One thing we can agree on is that more studies are needed.

Like I said before, I still have my moms prenatal care pamphlet from the early 60's where they stated that it was ok and even encouraged to smoke while pregnant because it was an excellent way for an expectant mother to relax.
You have to remember that it was only about 150 years ago where doctors would prescribe doctor supervised masterbation for woman with anxiety issues.

What? Associating with a pot dealer puts your family and your job at risk? Not sure how you make that connection at all.
