Quality gaming? From a Nintendo system? That's like saying it's possible to get similar magnet poles to come together..
Have you seriously never even seen what games came out of the SNES? You're missing out on some of the finest games of the 16-bit era.
I'm not saying this with a bias. I played just as much Sega games back then as I did SNES games. I played Sonic games more than Mario games. Unfortunately, the Genesis never produced anything to the level of some of the bests the SNES had.
(I'm not trying to defend the Gamecube or Wii here, keep that in mind.)
Dreamcast was awesome. I picked one up brand new for $50.00 in Caroline, AB of all places. This was pretty close to when they were seeing a sharp decline. Blockbuster video got rid of all their Dreamcast games for pennies on the dollar.
I don't think anyone needed to feel sorry for Genesis owners. It was a solid machine. It wasn't until the Sega CD and the 32X came along that Sega started to really drop the ball.
Now people who owned a Phillips CDI or Atari Jaguar, that's another story. But then again, those machines were so expensive, it was pretty hard to feel sorry for the rich kids who actually suckered their parents into purchasing those two pieces of crap.
Terrible NES version of the arcade game (both of which I played obsessively):
My favourite game of all time, periodically I try to find a PC port:
I worked at a video store as a teenager where if I was lucky, I'd get the system at the end of the day to bring home (my parents would never let me buy one, and by age 16, I had better things to waste my money on, and I got it free at the end of the night and had to have it back by opening). I'd stay up all night wasting my life trying to finish these games.

The worst was Panasonic 3DO. My buddies mom bought him one for almost $500, the games barely lasted an hour from start to finish.
So many games I forgot that I have been reminded of because of this thread.
River City Ransom.
Boy and his Blob.
Contra
Bubble Bobble (the arcade version still was best though)
RC Pro AM
Marble Madness
Bayou Billy
Super Beach Volley Ball
Super Dodge Ball
California Games

I dont recall the NES system being available in Canada in 1985 - more like 1987?
According to wikipedia, the most reliable source in the history of ever, the NES was released to limited markets in North America on October 18, 1985, and a mass release was done in February of 1986.

My favorite racing game ever is still from the 3DO. That version of Road Rash was awesome, and the hilarious videos at the end of a race made it even better.
