My greatest fear is someone I love dying, I can't think of anything that would be as difficult to deal with as that would be.

Y'know, for everyone that's afraid of ceasing to exist, have you ever thought about putting down some of your thoughts to paper or audio recording?
This may sound really far-fetched, but I always found the idea of discovering long lost knowledge fascinating. For example, recovering the log of a sunken ship, or going through the home of a recently deceased family member and discovering a logbook in a hollowed out piece of wall that was previously covered by a painting.
And even though they were fictitious, I always enjoyed exploring the wasteland in Fallout 3 and coming across those errant SOS radio signals, chancing upon what had become makeshift shelters as the bombs fell on the surface, speculating what took place before the occupants died.
There are a great many things I would want to leave behind before I die. Words left unspoken to make up for the deeds left undone.

Since last Friday's fatal shark attack in Santa Barbara I have been very uneasy in the water. Never gave sharks a second thought before the attack, now I am "seeing" shadows and dorsal fins on a regular basis

Running over a kid.
Have had several nightmares about that.

I'm completely terrified of any bug with wings. Even butterflies. (I know, I'm a baby)

Mice. They scare and creep me the hell out. I'm not scared of anything else. I'd rather be put in a cage with a bunch of tigers than a family of mice.

Something horrible happening to my child. I'd murder the president, the pope and everyone in between to try and stop that.

Tough to pick for me.
- eaten by a great white shark. The thought of having a giant predator within feet of you and not knowing it's there drives me insane. I've been bothered in areas that have no possibility of danger like pools or lakes. It's odd.
- mice freak me out. Had a serious problem with them in a house growing up and it stuck with me. They were in the walls, ceilings ... everything. Once I turned on a bathroom fan and was pelted with mouse droppings. My cat recently killed one in our kitchen and it was almost debilitating trying to gather the nerve to get rid of the body. Just last week i noticed droppings between our door and screen door. The next morning my wife went to walk the dog and as she opened the inside door a mouse scurried up the screen. Freaked her right out.
- losing my kid is a new one. When we had a monitor it was awful. He'd make a drowning sound (as the little buggers tend to) and I'd have to stare at the monitor until he made another sound before I could sleep. Getting rid of the monitor was the best thing we ever did.

After watching the movie The Box (which is a terrible movie), I'm afraid of being blind and deaf at the same time. Either one would be terrible but liveable, but being both at the same time scares the crap out of me.

Isn't that the case with the vast majority of people, though?
Or do you mean 'before you' as in 'right in front of your eyes?'

Even if it is a fear of the vast majority of people it does not make it any less valid on a personal level. My father is my mentor, my hero and my best friend. He also has stage 4 terminal cancer. I know it's coming. There is not a damn thing in this universe that I can do about it. I still lie awake at night afraid. I'm afraid of that final moment. If it be by his side or I get a call.
My own death does not trouble me in terms of myself. If I had warning I would be worried about my wife and my family.
All that said I am afraid of job interviews and public speaking.
